RE: Unless
OL is the biggest issue right now. The interior of the OL simply can't pick up a blitz right now. Fix that and most of the other problems on offense clear up.

Conditioning actually is better than it was last season, although injuries are testing our depth at some spots. I don't think that's a glaring need.

Special teams...maybe. The penalties need fixed. Everything else was on point yesterday.

Pfhuck 'em. This is either a product of leftover Enos recruits, and/or bad assistant coaching, or still further, a combination thereof. It is definitely NOT CMU football! "Next man in" used to mean no drop-off in talent. Now, it means "holy sh!t, that DE just blew by our OL to sack Rush!" Inexcusable! The number of sacks in the last three games is unparalleled since I've followed CMU football!

I'm leaning toward coaching, because most of the sacks lately have been a result of confusion. It's like the center and RG don't know who has who during a blitz. Lack of experience is probably making things worse, but if there's this much confusion, I'm looking at the position coach. The OL wasn't THIS bad under Enos, although it did get worse after Cummings left. 03-banghead

At least you won't have to worry about pass protection against us. Rush will be able to eat a sandwich while standing in the pocket waiting for someone to get open.

Hmmm, maybe we need to hire a blind sumo-wrestling coach to train them. 03-idea

I don't know, we make every O-line look like Dallas' Super Bowl O-line and every QB look like Tom Brady. When it comes to tackling we make every RB look like a combination of Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders.

Can't hurt. At least they wouldn't be blocking one another.

Hhmmmmmm. Maybe I'll come down to the "Big D" and suit up? I've been down there before and had a great time.

If you do and you're on the field, mention to the refs that we are not "Northern Iowa". Thanks.

I'll be happy to, and while I'm at it, I'll also mention for us to get the last play ala Okie State game.

RE: Unless
Got the hell out of Dekalb with a "W." Too much drama at the end, but I'll be over it shortly. 04-drinky

Game grades:

Offense: B. Too many mistakes (turnovers, penalties, dropped passes) for a higher grade but got the job done.

Defense: B+ Got victimized by a bad call on the Turner tumble & run for a TD 03-banghead but made enough plays to keep us in it until the offense wore the Huskies down.

Special Teams: D+. A couple short kickoffs that didn't work out very well, a botched snap contributing to a missed FG, and a flat-out whiff on another FG. 03-banghead Near-misses on what could have been a couple of inside-the-5 punts. However, we had some decent returns, return coverage was good, 4/4 on XPs, and the blocked FG at the end was beautiful. This area still needs a lot of work, and by the look on Bono's face, the SpT coach had better be on notice.

Coaching: B. No big complaints. The team showed up with some fight in them, especially on D, and the problems we had today were more execution than game plan. The decision to run at the Huskies paid off late in the game, when the NIU front seven was clearly gassed.

Honorable mention: after a rough first quarter, the Bubs took it to NIU and got the run game going. Rush's protection also got better as the game went on. Yes, NIU's D is not great this year, but credit where it's due. I have hopes this youngish unit will get better as the season goes on.

Game grades:

Offense: C. Too many mistakes (turnovers, penalties, dropped passes) for a higher grade but got the job done. (Boring, generic pro set. Watts should be executed.)

(Looks just like the sh!t Anus Enos used to run, only we got VERY
lucky today---very disappointed in this team!)

I thought the problems were more execution than coaching (I added that category with an edit, BTW) today. As for Watts, I'm 98% sure he'll be retiring at the end of the season. He's made comments about wanting to stay around until Rush graduates more than once.

Yup. 05-mafia But hey, road win against a division opponent. I'll take it. 03-phew

Now, if we don't play better than this at Toledo next week? 03-puke

Special Teams changed after further consideration; I was waffling on it anyway.
