Looks Like UC Coach Tuberville's contract extension was signed Oct. 1, 2016. Buyout is $2.4 Mil before Dec. 7, 2016,
$1.5 Mil after Dec. 7

Contract extension:

Should have signed him to a lifetime, no buyout contract and at least they could claim "stability."

No way UC athletics forks over seven figures just to make Tuberville go away. The money is just not there.

Small-time athletics. 03-phew

Could we possibly hire an "assistant" coach and then just demote Tubs to 3rd string QB coach?

I think whoever signed off on this extension has made their intentions clear. Why would you approve a contract extension just 10 days ago? There is no recruiting benefit. There is no way UC is firing Tuberville this year. He will probably be here until he decides to retire. The thought makes me sick to my stomach.

Not sure I see the outrage. Unless I am reading his contract wrong he has the same exact buyout this year and basically was able to negotiate a 500K higher buyout for the extension. I cannot see that stopping UC from firing him and seems like a rather low buyout for a coach making what he makes. Seems like UC wanted to buy a year and hope it worked out. Had they fired him last year it would have cost 2.4 million, if they fire him at the end of this year it costs them 1.5 million.

Fire everyone associated with that contract. Shame CTT into resignation.

Look at he bright side...we go 6-6 and then beat the 4th place C-USA team in the Toilet Bowl and he will be stumping to return for a new and improved 2017.

That 2.4 million dollar buyout before December 7 is the exact same number that was in the contract before the extension. 1.5 is 500K more, but University decided it wasn't ready to pay 2.4 million to buyout last year and didn't want a lame duck head coach. It increased the buyout for end of this season by 500K to not have a lame duck coach hoping it would work out. I just don't see this as prevented UC from firing Tuberville.

I think a great day to fire him would be October 18, when the board meets to accept our invite to the Big 12. $2.4M would be very palatable with that knowledge.

Why give that pos any more money. Tubs will regret this one day when he realizes his legacy is more about imploding programs than his one good year at Auburn.

Let him stay the rest of the year to deal with the fans.

What exactly has Mike bohn done besides collect a pay check?

BTW I forgot to mention, UC can fire Tuberville between December 7 this year and January 21 of next year for nearly 900K LESS than they could fire him before the extension. So if the extension was about buying a year than this deal probably saves money if they fire Tuberville in the normal period a coach gets fired (right after the regular season).

If UC fires Tuberville after this season this was a GREAT deal for the University.

My post above really makes me believe that:
1. The extension was giving Tuberville one more year to prove himself
2. Tuberville will be fired unless things turn around drastically.
3. Tuberville will not be fired until after the regular season

Id take the 4th place CUSA team -14 in a bowl game against Tubs.

That is a good point. Moving up the date from Jan 31 to Dec 7 makes it much easier to fire him.

The longer this goes on the more it hurts the program...because of what you mention.

RE: Tuberville Buyout $2.4 mil now, 1.5 mil after season..contract extension pdf
Only one problem with that...
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So you fire Tuberville after Dec. 7: That's $1.5 right there. And you don't have a HC.

THEN, on top of that, you have to go and find a new HC...that's going to be expensive too.

So, where's the money coming from?
You are already more than half of the Athletic Department's budget with student fees. You're now talking even more money.
Where's it going to come from???

There's already some wing-nut professors out there rattling the cage about how much money the Athletic Department gets; do you think those voices will increase or decrease when you pay the former head coach $1.5 Million...just to get lost? Do you think those voices will increase or decrease when you come back and want to pay the new HC more than the old HC was getting?

And then you have the problem with BB... Already you have poured $89 Million into a Nippert renovation while BB languishes in aged and poor facilities. Already we have had Mick go looking for other jobs because, in part, the football team and coach were getting more than their fair share of the budget. What do you think happens with the BB team when you plop that buy-out money down for Tuberville?

I don't see it. $1.5 Million might as well be the moon right now.
Tuberville is safe.
I wish I had his terms at my job.

Bohn didn't bring in Tuberville or put a 2.4 million dollar buyout in Tuberville's contract through January 21 of next year. His moving up the buyout reduction date could be an amazing move and save UC big money if it wants to fire Tuberville after the season. Don't kill Bohn over this yet.
