RE: Let's talk basketball
It's encouraging to see us winning close games. Watching the highlight of Reid's game-winner the other night was impressive. From the clip, the Vines Center looked as full as I've seen it in years. To think we're doing it all with one of our top players out. I too really think we can reach a 20 win season. Are we turning into a basketball school instead of a football school? I can see the argument even if I may not agree with it.

I say let's be both. There are a select number of schools that do it successfuly. We can certainly be one of them.

How good is it to say this?.....

So, which post season tournament do you think we are headed to?... NCAA, NIT, CBI, or CIT? Thankfully it should be one of those. It's nice just to be able to do that.

RE: Let's talk basketball
Isn't there a Las Vegas tournament too? Either way, I will say we make the CBI. I believe Winthrop has our number and we'll probably not win the Big South tournament or get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. We likely won't win the Big South regular season which would lock us into the NIT if we lost the conference tournament, right? I doubt we'd be an at-large there too. Assuming a Big South school makes it into one of each of those, I think that frees us up for either the CBI or CIT and since I know very little about either then I just chose the CBI. I think we'd host a game if we paid for it and I think we'd definitely pay. I just wish the Vines Center was more full for basketball games.

Next year is the one I'm really looking forward to. We will be much more mature (assuming no defections) and year 3 (hopefully) into McKay's second stint.

RE: Let's talk basketball
Today is the last game of the regular season and it is huge. We need to win to have a shot at first place but with our two losses to Winthrop that is likely impossible since they should beat Presbyterian today. We are sitting at 19 wins so we can get over the 20 win threshold. It is exciting to be a fan of the Flames right now!

I hate having to beat a team three times in one season, especially a team we have played so closely. We need a quick start. All Flames! All Day!!

RE: Let's talk basketball
I think we've only lost to Winthrop and UNC Asheville in conference play. I like our chances against everyone else and hopefully those two get upset along the way. We should win against Radford and almost anyone else as well. Let's make some noise in March!

Since we're getting good again what do you want the OOC schedule to look like next year (12-13 games)?
I'd like to see something like.....
Vermont - reg. season champ of a small conf. and the land grant school of their state.
Temple- name brand but not what they use to be and in a major market.
ODU- in state rival.
Valparaiso- reg. season champ of a small conference in a talent rich basketball state.
Monmouth- reg. season champ of a small conference.
UNLV- same as Temple.
Belmont- reg. season champ of small conference and in a major market.
Bucknell-reg. season champ of small conference.
Kentucky- we take our whoopin' but get great exposure.
Houston Baptist- similar university in a major market with good recruiting.
BYU- This should be a regular rivalry.
GCU- just because I want to be better than they are.
Notre Dame- This should be a regular rivalry.

Yep. Saw that one coming. Wish we could have picked up our 20th win. Things were set up great to get to the championship. I knew Radford was going to be tough beating a third time given our two other games.

RE: Let's talk basketball
Very disappointing end to the season. I expect a postseason tournament and I hope to break 20 wins. If not, the two or three game skid to end the season really puts a damper on the season.

Assuming.....

Winthrop - NCAA

UNC Ashville - NIT

CIT - Liberty (unless GW beats Winthrop)

CBI - Gardner Webb (unless they beat WU)

What kind of a seed do you think Winthrop gets? I'm think'in a #15.

Bracketology has them at a #14.

I'm on the fence. There are probably eight worse auto-bids for bad conferences, but are there 10-12 or however many to fill up the lower seeds? Gun to my head I pick a 14 seed.

If things fall the right way for them they could get a 13 seed.

Just once I'd like the BSC team to be Cindarella and crash the Sweet 16. We need our conference profile to rise in order to help our own bb program.

Winthrop and VMI if I'm not mistaken at least made the top 32 about 6-9 years ago. There may have been others before that but it has been a long time.

RE: Let's talk basketball
Big win last night! We reached our 20 wins but the season isn't over. We still have much to play for in regards to both the current season and future seasons!

By the way, I know it is probably slim to none, but is anyone else at least a little worried that coach McKay may leave us for another program?
