I'll be hiding for a couple of seasons unless something dramatic takes place - stud recruit, a million dollar donation, or a new coach.

He looked sluggish at the end of his match but his 1st period was good enough to secure a win. Suglio and Sparkman (WBF) looked good in their wins but the other 7 matches were frustrating, to say the least. Bast and Spohn really struggled. Bast couldn't get off of bottom and Spohn was pinned after chasing and being thrown to his back in OT. I don't think I've seen anything like that before at the DI level. Nye was respectable against a very good 285 but he didn't capitalize on his opportunities. Simpson's struggles continue - he looked exactly like a true freshman getting pinned. Driscoll fought to the end in his loss, but should have not been losing. Rooney kept his match close and Walker was in a cradle more often than a new born. So much for the longest streak of domination in KSU athletics' history - 40 consecutive wins against an opponent.

Lambert please save me from the depression I'm in. You know much more than I about wrestling. Am I going to have at least a competitive team to watch next year or should I just crawl under the bed and hide.

Here's a bit of a surprise. UNI knocks of Mizzou to win the MAC title.

RE: 2016-2017 Wrestling
Good luck to the KSU Wrestling team in their final MAC dual of the season @ Old Dominion.

Here are the projected matchups:
Projected Lineups
125: Cory Simpson (9-20) vs. Steven Simpson (5-19)
133: No. 22 Anthony Tutolo (18-5) vs. Alex Madrigal (8-10)
141: Chance Driscoll (19-14) vs. Kevin Budock (18-13)
149: Tim Rooney (16-21) vs. No. 27 Michael Hayes (15-11)
157: No. 33 Casey Sparkman (21-10) vs. Larry Early (14-5)
165: Isaac Bast (8-14) or Jared Walker (14-19) vs. No. 21 Seldon Wright (18-7)
174: Jerald Spohn (13-15) vs. Antonio Agee (9-12)
184: Shane Mast (13-13) vs. No. 8 Jack Dechow (24-3)
197: Stephen Suglio (19-15) vs. No. 14 Kevin Beazley (19-4)
285: Devin Nye (16-17) vs. Will Hilliard (6-16)

Spohn dropping down to 174lbs, hopefully he can get a win there today and do well in the MAC Tournament at that weight.

Here's the link to statistics, updated through yesterday: http://kentstatesports.com/documents/201...WStats.pdf

At 174lbs in open tournaments Lane Hinkle has a record of 27-10 and Dylan Barreiro is 19-16, so Walker, Bast, Spohn, & Mast will have competition for starting spots next season from both of those guys.

The rest of the wrestlers who competed in Open Tournaments haven't fared so well. Still scratching my head that Jairod James was kicked off the team for slapping the OU wrestler in the face, unless there is more to his story....

Lost to Old Dominion 23-19. The forfeit at 133 due to Tutolos injury cost them in this one. It's been one of those years.

Yes. This season has been frustrating. At least a couple of younger wrestlers got their initial MAC wins. Perhaps dropping a weight class will help Spohn. Hopefully Tutolo gets healthy for March.

The MAC will have 37 NCAA berths coming from the MAC tournament. The fourth best conference. They only have two at 157 so Sparkman has his work cut out for him. With Tutolo being hurt there is a real chance we could be shutout this year. We will see in about 9 or 10 days.

Remember the MAC only has 9 teams Wrestling so the total number of allocations is better than just the sum

True but Missouri, Northern Iowa and CMU will probably get 20-25 of those slots. The other six teams will have to scramble for the remaining 15 or so slots.

And we would be the only team not in the finals. Sparkman was crushed in his semi and Tutolo and Suglio were pinned. As consolation, OU had a great year last season and they aren't doing a lot better than us. However, our AA streak is in SERIOUS jeopardy.

Yes I would agree. Tutolo has qualified and I believe Suglio has a chance but I doubt either of them are AA candidates.

Ok please explain to me how Mast was leading 13-2 and ended up losing 15-14. I know it was only a 7th place match but it sure mirrors our season. P

I stand corrected. Track wrestling updated the score to 21-11 in favor of Mast. Sounds better.

Up 13 to 2 and lost? I know I don't chime in to ksu grappling much...my wrestling investment is at the ohsaa level.

No Track Wrestling corrected the score to 21-11 in favor of Bast. They do that once in awhile. It's been such a bad year so I actually believed it when the bad score popped up. He was ahead 13-5 going into the third so it still was a wild third period. It's not like he controlled that last period.

RE: 2016-2017 Wrestling
Tutolo finished 6th but he was in a loaded weight class at 133 and sixth got him an automatic NCAA berth. Ditto for Suglio who finished fifth at 197. Sparkman finished third but 157 only qualified two automatically. He has a pretty good record so he might get one of the wild cards. Qualifying 3 would be pretty good considering the year we had. None appear to be even close to AA candidates so that streak will more than likely be broken.

Too bad for Tutolo who has been injured for 6 weeks or so and is far from being in shape. He is better than the sixth best wrestler in the MAC.

Kent finished ninth and last in the tournament.
