So, based on that, I've come to 2 conclusions - 1) the attendance will be lower than I hoped - maybe 32-35ish and 2) I need new friends.

You choose your friends on whether they can make it to a game?

very good idea - no sun in your face for a 7 pm kickoff, and that side appears more filled in on TV.

That's sad if true. Thought our football program was past that type crowd, guess not. Gonna look really great on national TV, wish it wasn't a ESPN game for the entire nation to see. Big time? Yea right.

Yep, but it's not the fan's fault.

The administration and city are well aware that the season ticket number is around 20K and what normal attendance is.

If they want more than 35K for games, they need to promote better, do the Kroger tickets, tarp the other end zone, etc.

The LB is just too large a venue.

Fans are fine.

That will forever be the problem. Practically infinite supply fosters little demand.

No, not really.

There were 30k at the Tulane game last year to watch the #16 team in the country.

Even the Navy game wasn't a sellout. I had three friends get handed free ticket from guys with extras.

This isn't necessarily a shot at the fanbase, just more the idea that the stadium is just too big to require demand.

Hoops, I'm in total agreement with you on the size of the stadium being too large for our program. I've stated for years that we need an OCS with 45-48,000 seating capacity, built to be expanded if ever needed (think Papa John stadium, L'Ville). Hopefully, someday the University will get out of the political game with the city, SHC and Liberty Bowl and start taking care of what's best for the school.

Sadly, the whole LB renewal and Tiger Lane is similar to a bad poker hand.

Instead of folding after the flop (the LB as of 2004--the equivalent to a 2, 4, and 6 card deal, off suit), the city promised refurbishments and the creation of Tiger Lane, so we but a huge bet down. We got nice improvements, so we put some more money down, hoping that bet would piggyback onto the initial bet. We were dealt a Queen. Nice card, but doesn't do crap with a 2,4, and 6.)

So now we are waist deep in our investment ("bet") and can't fold now. So, we stick in it and hope for a miracle. We add the jumbotron, a fresh coat of paint, chairbacks, and see the beauty of Tiger Lane. The river card is an Ace. Awesome, except it doesn't do crap with a 2,4,6, and Q. So, now we are neck deep in the bet. All we can do now is bluff, try to convince ourselves (and more importantly others) that this hand is the bees knees, even though we know we should have folded a long time ago and gone to another table and tried again.

My 2 cents ... Temple doesn't excite people. Weeknight/school night. On easy TV anyway (not ESPN3). I don't even think coming off a loss hurts that much. If this was a better team coming in I think that's the biggest variable. Makes a huge difference IMHO.

At this point if we are tied to the Liberty Bowl for a long while, I'd say forget the tarp of the North (?) End Zone under the Mini Tron and rip out that entire end of the stadium and make a prominade out of it. Instead of a bowl stadium, have a mini horseshoe stadium. The prominade becomes an extension of Tiger Lane, the fan experience, etc. Probably cuts capacity to 50K and pushes butts into seats towards to the sidelines.

Primary issues I would see is what to do about the visitors locker room, but I am sure it could be worked out and the Autozone Liberty Bowl pitching a fit about capacity.

I think the short term plan should be to tarp both end zones and avoid any heavy construction. I'm not sure how many seats the current tarp takes away, but someone was right about capacity.. Huge capacity reduces demand. We all know we can walk up and get a ticket, and at least half the time someone is giving away free tickets out front. I know I give away mine when I have extras. It may take away from ticket revenue but they'll probably spend the money on beer and concessions anyway...

I liked the 9.01 tickets. A good promotion and a reasonable deal on tickets. Winning is the best plan of course, and scheduling good non conference opponents will help too. Can't do much about the conference schedule, it's actually pretty decent, but just doesn't generate much enthusiasm.

Anyway, my prediction is 38k..
