RE: NIU @ #25 WMU predictions
This has become a rivalry game. I think it will be a hard fought game with Hagen nailing a 45 yard field goal. Go Huskies!! These teams know each other well Huskies 34- Broncos 31

More than distant nod. Fleck has figured out the coach speak: Heard him yesterday go on and on about NIU, what a great team they have, talent, the tradition, winning program. He said the same last week before, and even more remarkably AFTER the win, about CMU. This guy is pretty smart like him or not, and he has learned to never give any material to the opposition, win or lose.

So you're saying we'll hold them to 41? I'll take it...
I am not saying anything. I am just showing the results of my research. The Huskies have come a long way since the turn of the century.

This will have a feel of 2004 to it only NIU will be on the wrong side.
59-28 WMU.
Should be an amazing atmosphere. At least we can drive home listening to the Cubs playoff game.

The way people are talking on here NIU might as well not show up. Just stay in Dekalb and hope nobody notices. I'm not sold on WMU blowing us out. We beat them with Graham last year........

RE: NIU @ #25 WMU predictions
NIU should not be a 19.5 point dog to anyone in this league. Maybe had the lost to BSU by 2td+, could not move the ball.
I think this line is more conducive to a 5-0 WMU team who destroyed CMU who themselves "beat" OK ST paired with a 1-4 NIU team who lost to a DII team. NIU now has a QB who can at least put a few td's up and move the chains and give the defense a rest.
Boat Blowers - 41
Huskies - 30
While I would be surprised if the won, would not be shocked. They now are playing with a sense of urgency. Every game is a bowl game.

Against one of the weaker MAC teams, the Huskies finally generated some offense and defense, and managed to win by one TD. WMU has been running at top speed since Week 1. The Huskies will need much better effort vs WMU than they showed vs Balls.

RE: NIU @ #25 WMU predictions
As a WMU alum, all I can say is that if we don't beat you guys this year we never will. You have had our number for sure, but mostly you have just been a better team most years, and won. This year though I do think we are pretty good, and have legitimately have earned some respect. I know NIU is far better than your record, and that the QB change is a big deal. I'm taking nothing for granted in this game, and was surprised by the betting line. Home field advantage hopefully will be helpful for my team.
NIU has represented the MAC very well over the last several years, and has been an easy school to root for, when not playing the Broncos. I'm hoping this is the year that WMU carries its weight in the same respect. Having said that, it is hard getting through a MAC schedule unscathed. It is always the most balanced league in the country, and anyone can lose to any other team on a given week. I will be squeezing my cheeks together every game, and particularly this week.
I would like to wish you luck on Saturday, but I hope you have no luck at all.

Also left 13 points on the field with 2 missed field goals and the red zone INT.

RE: NIU @ #25 WMU predictions
This game is so easily summed up for me in NIU's approach on offense, if they do their typical happy to get off the field with 0 or 3 points, WMU runs up the score, if they value each possession it has the potential to be close.

NIU is 87th in total def, WMU 82. Basically the same.
While NIU is 71st in rushing def, they give up 4.00 a carry(612 carries) which isn't that bad.
WMU is 76th, but they are one of the worst in the country at avg/carry, 5.25 (448 carries) and have given up 24 rushing td's.
Need to play smart, ball control run. Hope to then free up a long one or 2 to Kenny G. If you keep them off the field, to low 30's they should be in it. NIU "should" score.
I like reading your boards every so often, but i normally forgo commenting. However, I could not let this one go unchecked.
Where did you find your states?
WMU is #19 in total def, while NIU is #114
Incidentally, we put on 49 points each to #16 Def (Georgia Southern) and the #34 Def (CMU) Being these rankings are as of Oct 2nd and neither of those two have played another team since our games, most likely their rankings were higher before we had played them.

Sort of. If NIU won the West, which this game would help if NIU pulled the huge upset, that would change the equation most certainly in terms of STF. Carey would be here until his contract runs out no question (if that isn't true already)

RE: NIU @ #25 WMU predictions
This game will come down to whether the O-line can protect Maddie from WMU's front 4. Against CMU, the front 4 not only were getting pressure on Rush pretty quickly, but there was no spot to step up into or gap to escape the pocket. Maddie is more mobile but I'm not sure he would have found a gap there either. They managed some of that against Illinois too. I didn't see the Northwestern game. They might have to roll Maddie out a bunch - and he did throw fairly well on the run in his limited starting experience.
And then we'll probably have to do some mixed blitzes, they HAVE to not let Terrell get too comfortable in the pocket. I'd rather give up a few plays on blitzes that didn't get to the QB, if we can put in Terrell's mind that we're coming after him frequently and that he'll have to get rid of the ball. (I think we all know we're going to give up some of those plays anyway). Especially if he knows that Lurry is lurking out there.
