Zelis should have enough credits to graduate so I don't foresee him returning to NIU next year. Backing up Maric this year will be 6'8 Jalen Key, 6'7 Sean Damaska and 6'8 Noah McCarthy.

Its still not good to lose your only backup big man. Andrew Zelis spelled Maric whenever he was in foul trouble or needed a breather.

Actually, Jaylen Key backed up Maric. The loss isn't about how it affects the team it really doesn't. It's just a shame to get hurt after putting all that work in during the off-season.

Agree, this affects absolutely nothing about the season, just personally for him its tough to see.

Really intriguing to see where the bar is set this year. SOOOO refreshing to see the goal is to win the MAC and not just get to the tourney (which has been the goal is year's past). This team is talented enough to win the whole darn thing this year, so I am glad that is where they are shooting. Just from quick glimpses, the newcomers really appear to have infused some positive influence in terms of "lockerroom".

This team on paper has it all, they can beat you penetrating to the basket, they can beat you inside, they can beat you on the perimeter. It has been ages ages ages since we have been able to say that. Maybe the 3-pt % will struggle early, but I think it will work itselt out in time for conference play.

The only thing this team is missing is crowd support. The Convo could be a great home court advantage. They've got like 8 games at home in November. Get your butts into some of those seats. Season tickets are ridiculously cheap. Chicken Basket is pretty good at the snack bar too.

That changes this year. Support started to show up at times last year, and I think it reaches new level this year. It really has been 20 years since we have had a basketball team like this.
