Offense seems down, PL gave us the ability to move the ball against anyone & we didn't make a lot of mistakes. But the defense against the pass was weak last season preventing more success. So a lot of unknowns still. Still think the run game is weak due to weak O-line. Don't see the O-line opening holes or protecting the passer. Success has come from scheme but timing is still lacking on most pass plays - leaving the offense in need of the big play to score. Offense skill players have talent too but very inconsistent. Everything still points to unknowns given the competition & will still be unknown after the BG game. Hate to have all of those unknowns going to Oxford but maybe we catch them down, hurt & we are up to the challenge. And maybe we have only shown vanilla, given the lack of challenge. Just hope & unknowns at this point.

Great points!! My biggest concerns much like yours are the Offensive line not opening any holes for the backs and the defensive lines getting in our back field pretty regular.. My main concern is Riley not looking off receivers.. I watched him intently our last game and every time he goes back to pass he focuses on 1 receiver the whole play.. Against the better teams starting with Ole Miss they will key in on that and and it will make it a lot harder on him getting completions.. And if he doesn't change or can't change that aspect of his game the Offense will struggle going forward after this weekends game!! To be successful at the QB position you have to be able to go to your 2nd or 3rd option when the 1st isn't their and from what I've seen of Riley he hasn't shown the ability to do that!! JMO

Regarding Riley, take a look against BG, the problem is bigger than Riley not looking off receivers & going through progressions. On most pass plays to date Riley doesn't have a good progression tree. Most times there have only been 2-3 receivers in the pattern & they are not good progressions. Example Riley rolls right with only one receiver on the right side, a receiver going to the left sideline & another receiver on a go-route from the left side. Since Riley is rolling right, he has no ability to throw to the left side receivers. It leaves Riley with no options if his primary is not open. Then on other plays Riley just doesn't go through any progressions, doesn't throw a receiver open & with poor timing waits to see a receiver open allowing a defender to recover. Like PL during his 1st yr, hoping Riley improves, gets comfortable & can move the Tigers consistently. Hope reciver progressions improve too.

All of this may be true (even on plays where he has all the time in the world), but it seems more likely that you've noticed this when as soon as the ball is snapped a defeneder is in his face. Riley has room to improve and will have to work with the coaches on how to handle that, but I observed many plays he was being pressured from his left and forced right. Both sides need to improve, but there is one thing that fixes that issue.....block so your QB has time and can stay in the pocket.

Very true, it does seem he is on the run constantly so he has no time to do anything other than throw it away or throw to the original receiver he has his eye on!! It could and probably is the reason he can't look off receivers in that he has not had time, because of the blocking, to do so!!
