Went to the Canes game tonight. Beat the Bruins 4-3 in OT to pull within 5? points of Philly and the 2nd wildcard spot.

Sebastian Aho is having a nice under-the-radar rookie campaign. Obviously not at the level of Laine or Matthews, but he's now got double digits in goals and is 7th in rookie points.

Aho has been balling out IMO. A great pick by the Canes. Watched end of 2nd, parts of the 3rd and the entire OT.

We can do this, just need a winning streak to get some 2 points straight up at the expense of other teams.

Big win 5-3 over the Blue Jackets tonight. Skinner line was fantastic despite the refs turning away every time he got roughed up. Buffalo beat Philly too, so Canes are just 3 points back.

Metropolitan division is insanely strong right now with 4 of the top 5 points. List of teams with 50+ points with games played. Not sure how Chicago has already played so many more games than others but Minnesota is in better position than them being only 4 points down with 5 games in hand.

Columbus (40 games) - 60 points - Metropolitan Division
Chicago (44 games) - 59 points - Central Division
Pittsburgh (39 games) - 57 points - Metropolitan Division
Washington (40 games) - 57 points - Metropolitan Division
Rangers (42 games) -57 points - Metropolitan Division
Montreal (41 games) - 56 points - Atlantic Division
Minnesota (39 games) - 55 points - Central Division
San Jose (40 games) - 50 points - Pacific Division
Anaheim (42 games) - 50 points - Pacific Division

Flyers are trailing the Caps 5-0 in the third... Hurricanes are about to be one point from the wild card with 2 games in hand.

I do love that purple All Star jersey though...

Hopefully my man Justin Faulk from the Hurricanes can show good over the weekend.

Commissioner interview at the All Star game
https://www.nhl.com/news/gary-bettman-on...-286215228

Speaks on some stuff involving the Olympics in 2018, the Las Vegas franchise, and the situations with the Isles and the Barclays arena as well as the Hurricanes ownership/sale.

I found this interesting in that it directly addressed the Hurricanes

Quote: Commissioner Bettman said it was unclear what owner Peter Karmanos would do with the Carolina Hurricanes, but the franchise would not leave Raleigh, N.C.

"Peter may sell; he may not sell," Commissioner Bettman said. "He may sell all of it; he may sell some of it. He may sell none of it. There's no formal sale process going on. There's no imperative for the franchise to be sold on any immediate basis. And the franchise is not moving."

Man, it looks like I have been off on these series so far....but they are all far from over...

Preds up 3-0 over Blackhawks

Blues up 3-0 over Wild

Ducks up 3-0 over Flames

Oilers up 2-1 over Sharks

Canadiens up 2-1 over Rangers

Senators up 2-1 over Bruins

Leafs up 2-1 over Capitals

Penguins up 3-0 over Blue Jackets.

Some of these series standings really surprise me.

So once again the Caps will dominate the regular season, and burn out in the postseason? I feel so bad for Ovechkin

OTOH we have the penguins who have obviously hit their stride, with a slew of young players who are proving to be the perfect supporting cast for Malkin and Crosby

RE: The Official NHL 2016-17 Thread: Stanley Cup Finals
My Blues are really hitting our stride, when a goalie is playing like Allen is it's really tough for anyone to beat us. I'd be worried about Nashville but the Blackhawks usually have a certain postseason mojo, so it'd be nice to avoid that for once.

I really love the Stanley Cup Playoffs and how unpredictable they are. Most seasons you can handpick who'll make the NBA semis (sometimes finals) with not too many surprised and in the NFL it's usually a good guess that the Patriots will make the AFC championship with the Packers and Steelers always competing. Baseball has a bit of randomness to it given how a 162-game season suddenly comes down to a handful of games, but not quite like hockey does with how only eight teams make the playoffs in the MLB.

Nashville and St Louis.

Two hockey towns if there ever were. Not like those pretenders in Minneapolis and Chicago ... pffft, do they even play hockey there???
