WVB rebounding with some key adjustments
http://wmubroncos.com/news/2016/9/17/wom...state.aspx

Sweep wins at Indiana State tournament. However, they are taken to 4 and 5 sets. Normally perceived as not good but here it was great. Team has struggled to finish playing tough teams tough but suffering from self inflicted mistakes or simply worn out over time. The 5 set win over ISU had WMU down 0-2. Meaning the gals finished 3-0 and did so convincingly. Easy to fold or think that the past was repeating itself.

Tough start this year. Loss of some key players in back line (D) who keep the ball in play for the O (kills).

Alysha Banzik and Sydney Lemay returned up front for O. Banzik has 1,000 kills for career but is a little undersized. Like Lou Gehrig somewhat overshadowed by others allowing her to "sneak up". LeMay is a returning all MAC player and former FOY. Olivia Kofie (jr) is another big who is consistent but not spectacular.

In the last several matches coach Munson appears to have decided to challenge two senior bigs, Kinser and Ryshytylo who are less athletic and haven't been a focal point offensively to step up. Additionally, Munson challenged freshman Kate Carey and she has responded by being a top two blocker and scorer at ISU.

So teams that had focused on LeMay and Banzik have been getting a steady additional dose of Carey, Kinser and Ryshytylo in addition to LeMay and Kofie. Banzik has played every set but doesn't appear to being asked to both block and kill nearly as much.

Like basketball, you scheme to stop a focal point then are left flat footed when your opponent attacks from a different perspective. And to Munson's credit multiple angles.

The added height up front to both score and block is now challenging opponents to BOTH defend and attack differently. Maybe in time they adjust but in the meantime WMU may seem to have found the alchemy needed to start MAC play.

Ladies open up at always tough NIU this Thursday but host Miami on Saturday.

Try to catch a game and root on them Broncos.
