Exclamation Rice vs Baylor game thread.
It's 3:28 PM. Lot 4 already has "Lot Full" sign up. Anyone coming much later will most likely be parking in the Med Center and shuttling over.

Weather looking better as the dark clouds are giving way to blue sky with scattered clouds. Then again, 3-1/2 hours 'till KO.

Did you know Dillard interned at Nassau last year? Mack says so.

Good shots of several dozen (!!) Rice coeds (cheerleaders and dance team? Thrill alert!!) and enthusiastic Rice students in the stands as ESPN tosses its coverage to HRS at 6:55 p.m. (Central time).

None of this "defer" strategy for the Bears. They win the coin toss and want the ball first.

Touchback!

Very happy to have a modern system now, where the main processing doesn't occur in the booth. It's just basic I/O and control now, but using tech a bit newer than the late 90s.

I was talking to one of the vendor's engineers, particularly regarding the wide toe angle of the two speaker arrays pointing to the east and west stands, and they (or Rice) actually did the right thing and brought out an acoustical consultant. One of the problems with the old system was that the speakers sent too much sound to midfield, so when the sound bounced off of the R-Room glass it caused all sorts of interference. It turns out that they had to widen the angle even more than originally expected, but that risked a similar problem with sound bouncing off the east/weat upper decks. They thankfully found an angle that bounced the echo out the corners toward the parking lots.

Baylor QB throws behind and into the turf on a simple out pattern.

WR wide open on seam route over the middle, but drops the ball thrown a little behind him. Whew!

Rice stuffs 3rd down QB draw for a loss. WooHoo!

Punt pulls a Phil Mickelson wedge action zip-back from midfield to the Baylor 43.

Trading 3-and-outs to start the game. I'm okay with this.

I very rarely critique player performance but I just don't think Stehling is an FBS quarterback.
