2016 CCU Schedule question
Just checking the '16 CCU schedule and noticed no FBS teams there.
Just didn't see the need? Curious.

I am surprised since they could use the extra million for their stadium

RE: 2016 CCU Schedule question
Moglia has had a policy for a few years for not scheduling FBS games as an FCS - says the scholarship difference is too much and money isn't worth it.

Not exactly my idea of preparing for the transition in a realistic fashion. Well, he will be the one to suffer if the team hits a wall.

Interesting philosophy. Hope he is prepared for the step up because you can't hide from it much longer. Seeing how much money CCU gets from subsidies for their athletic budget, I am shocked they don't schedule at least one body bag a year to help with costs.

Good luck this weekend CCU, keep on winning.

I doubt there was much they could do about it honestly. FBS football games are scheduled 2-3 years in advance...even games vs FCS teams.

Coastal didn't even join the Sun Belt till about this time last year. Just not enough time to get a transition schedule together with FBS teams.

We fought through the approval / denial / workaround process but that's the last official word as far as I know. Supposed to be going out to bid soon and hopefully construction to start in January.

Good luck this weekend CCU, keep on winning.

The winning is the key - they want / need fan support to keep improving. This weekend will be tough since we are playing one of the best FCS teams.

As far as preparation goes, I don't think playing a body bag game would help much. Look at App State's first transition year ... they went 4-8 with some FCS losses that I'm sure were embarrassing for them (NCA&T, CSU) and a 39 point whooping to Georgia. Did that make them better prepared for their next year? They still lost their body bag game - this time by 38 points. They also had an FCS loss to Liberty.

RE: 2016 CCU Schedule question
Apps timing was a little different. The FBS announcement was after the recruiting season, while CCUs was before. App only had one real FBS class which almost all were redshirted. CCU will be fine, I hope they redshirt a lot this year and next to prepare for the year they are bowl eligible.

Schedules are made more than 6 months in advance. You know that, right?

Fair point. I'm not really trying to compare the two other than the FBS games. You guys had some other turmoil to deal with as well.

In general, I;m not sure how much of an impact the one class will have on us this year anyway. I think we did get some upgraded players but most likely will redshirted - like you said.

RE: 2016 CCU Schedule question
So what if Coastal is does not have any FBS on this years schedule. Georgia Southern only had FBS game in there first year of transition to FBS. Now granted Georgia Southern FBS game that year was a big one but you have to remember that the game was already scheduled when the Eagles were invited to join the Sun Belt Conference.

Now Coastal go to Bama this weekend and kick the gamecocks all the way to Anniston.

I hope we do, but not sure. JSU is tough and loaded with FBS transfers. We are breaking in a new QB and have an all new defense.

Also FCS teams don't get paid all that much. Our last game as an FCS was against Florida and I think they paid like $550 K for us to beat them.

Could be making a play for the wins while they're still in transition to keep the momentum going. Makes sense to me...especially if they have the funds elsewhere and don't NEED the payouts.

Don't you know FloridaJag does not have very good reading skills, he only gets what he thinks is important out of what he reads.
