RE: (Oh No!) One Sided Battle for the Victory Bell
UC can be so up for big games and so down for not big games (this should be considered the latter for a team that fancies themselves a P5 team). UC should win comfortably but I am not comfortable with this team. UC seems better on Offense and Defense this year and, so far, I generally like the play calling on Offense (except for 3 Kiel handoffs) and Defense. I am not convinced the head coach will have them pumped up to play up to their abilities though. Miami should progress as a football team one of these years. I don't think this is the year that Miami wins (I hope I'm right) but I don't think UC will blow them out either (I hope I'm wrong).

UC - 27
Miami - 20

Yup...

I don't know that our performances are even that black and white anymore. Last year you would've thought they'd be up for USF (6-4 at that point) and San Diego State (MWC Champs and 10-3) but lost by a combined 107-34.

Good point. I hope the pumped up team shows up Saturday.

They've been much more responsible with the ball. Turnovers killed us this year. Aside from the last five minutes of the Houston game, that's vastly improved.

I'd say this. They haven't turned the ball over as much. Which isn't saying much, LOL. That's not the same thing as being more responsible with the ball. We could easily have half a dozen more interceptions. We've been the benefactors of some good luck there. You can't count on luck every week. Gotta start making better decisions and handling pressure better.

This is true. Turned it over 3 times against Houston but could have easily been 5 or 6. Could have turned it over more in game 1 as well. Purdue they did a pretty good job.

The area where we've really improved is defensively. The defensive line has been far stronger at the line of scrimmage (even where lacking pressure against Purdue) and the defense has forced turnovers, something they were terrible at last year.

I just haven't seen one area where the offense is in the same ballpark as last season.

I'm a bit concerned by the "contain" pass rush. It appeared sometimes UH ran a delayed QB draw. I would not be surprised if by design they let the receivers clear, then let Ward choose a running lane. Voila he is now in space.

I'm not sure why there was a difference between the halves. In the first half we were able to get pressure; second half, not so much.

Also, we do a terrible job on third down.

I hope we start doing some things to not be so predictable. On offense - First down - run . . . Third and long - contain pass rush . . . One of the best calls was near the end of the third quarter when they started the TD drive with a pass.

And why can't we run a bubble screen? You want to put 7 in the box, we're going to get the ball in space . . . Did you watch the TX ND game? First ND offensive play of overtime ND runs a bubble screen - 35 yards - TD untouched!

The offense has been about what I expected. New OC who has never really done it before and coming from the NFL...Feared we'd see a lot more plane Jane runs up the gut on 1st down and a lot less innovation. It's still early and the schedule is not murderer's row so hopefully everyone grows into it together.

Nice! Don't kill me but I think the whole FC Cincy movement coupled with the revitalization of uptown, UC, and Nippert has made visiting uptown pretty hip and helped attendance remain strong...Much more so than the teams Coach TT has fielded since he's been here.

That's really an outstanding number for an FCS team. Just shows the incredible support our Bearcats have!

Not to be skeptical but he said the same thing before the FCS game and we had 28,000 there.

Miami's last visit to Nippert was close to a sellout I believe, and 40,000 made it to Paul Brown two years ago. It is a popular game for UC fans at least.
