RE: Michael Warren
Pitchers in HS have a pitch limit now. I have to wonder about the wisdom, health wise, of getting 46 carries.

RE: Michael Warren
I've thought experimented that one too. He's not a "normal" kid. They're on the field for those plays anyhow, generally making contact, blocks.... A rec center b-ball game has more. The risk for injury is there anyhow. I suppose it's not the carries so much as the tackles or the fatigue that matters. If it were a blow-out, I could see it. If it were the coach trying to help a player rack up stats, he didn't really need them. CCHS is WAY better than Lima, I would hope they wouldn't sandbag to keep the kid in.

End of Story: Lima had to win to get a shot at play-offs, they came to play, CCHS wasn't ready, they needed Warren and Warren can do 40 carries in his sleep.

Most pitchers can easily go 100 pitches, too, but the cumulative effect eventually tears up elbows and shoulders. I worry about a 17-18 year old kid taking fifty hits in a game added to the 25 cpg or so he already has. I recall Steve Morgan routinely getting 30 cpg years ago and I thought that was a lot then. In these days of concussion concern I'm really surprised there aren't play limits or carry limits at that level. RBs rarely take the kind of hits receivers and return men do but the cumulative result of your brain slapping against the inside of your skull is not good. I don't follow HS sports so maybe this night was a huge anomaly but I think coaches need to keep safety uppermost in mind.

As he posted, this was a rarity. Not that that negates your argument but a concussion can happen on the first play. I don't think fatigue is causative. On first thoughts, I'm not coming up with a lot of arguments for "play limits." In high school, kids play both ways, particularly in the smaller divisions. Old men make more plays on the bball court at the rec. A player is making that many plays, ball in their hands or not.

Put it this way, when the ball is NOT in Warren's hands, his job is to make contact, to block. When the ball IS in his hands, his job is to run away.

And he's VERY good at that. 02-13-banana

Central Catholic’s pursuit of reaching a third straight Division III state football final moved a step closer Saturday night, as the top-ranked Fighting Irish jumped out to a 28-point halftime lead and cruised to a 56-13 victory over Hunting Valley University School at Huron’s Kalahari Field.

Central senior running back Michael Warren carried 20 times for 275 yards and scored five touchdowns on runs of 4, 7, 58, 55, and 32 yards to lead the Irish (12-0).

Not a bad way to celebrate an 18th birthday. He also surpassed his 100th career touchdown to move to 7th all-time on the Ohio list. Signing day needs to get here ASAP.
