Sorry, just assumed it wasn't worth updating until we got a bunch of conference games under our belts

Hopefully their spring sports can keep up the pace, and they get pretty high in the standings even though they only offer 14 sports. Next year that goes to 15 with the addition of women's golf, although who knows how good a first year golf team can be.

A bit off topic here, but I'm still hoping we'll eventually get an announcement of adding football and women's soccer, hopefully in the next year or two. If my memory from UTSA starting football is correct, a school has to spend at least 2 years in FCS before transitioning to FBS, so it would behoove UTA to go ahead and start an FCS program so there's a chance of moving to FBS should the Sun Belt lose a school in the next round of realignment or if they ever decide to go up to 12 teams. The addition of women's soccer (along with golf) would put UTA at 16 sports offered in conference, right in line with most of the other schools.

I'm surprised Little Rock doesn't offer tennis. I know it's a long shot they ever start football, but adding men's and women's tennis would get them closer to the rest of the conference. I can't find any discussion on the matter, but it does appear there are tennis courts on campus.

I can assure you the Mav athletic department takes the Bubas Cup very seriously. We added women's golf with an eye toward that. Our team will finish middle of the pack at worst in their first year, as we will have players who have been on scholarship and practicing for the past two years. Took a redshirt and one year of lost eligibility to do it, but we are serious about competing.

Also, rumors I'm hearing, with no teeth attached to them is that there is a possibility of a soccer add, both men and women on the horizon. Nothing official, just a preliminary look at both sports. I talk a little about it here: http://themaverickrambler.blogspot.com/2...sport.html

I'd not given any thought to men's soccer, that's a really idea to get a boost in the Bubba's Cup.

Joking about the lack of posts of course. I am fine. I was busy when basketball started up and nothing changed from the end of football until the very end of December. At the beginning of the year or maybe last year I made a joke about checking up on me if I ever missed a week.

It's about time someone asked about my whereabouts. I'll update tomorrow after all the scores for Saturday are posted.

Glad to know someone cares. :-)

Coastal in a solid number 2 spot and nipping at the heals of number 1 stAte, and we didn't even play football in the Sun Belt this year.

I'd say that's a pretty dang good showing.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
Updated with basketball through 20 Feb 2017 and the final results of ITF.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...edit#gid=0

Also a few days ago I received an email from a SB staff member that reads this board. He mentioned to me that for sports with divisions there was a decision made to group all the schools into one list and give out points based on the overall conference record. This changed some of my numbers for Volleyball, and I had a few other minor corrections to bring my numbers in line with the conference. Feel free to send me any edits that is noticed. I don't mind sending corrections on to the SB office. I tried to format the Bubas Points below. Hopefullt the spacing comes through. It is an ABC list and not sorted by points.

School Points as of Date Points Sports Finished
Appalachian State 59.0 52.5
Arkansas State 64.0 51.0
Arkansas-Little Rock 42.0 27.0
Coastal Carolina 58.5 46.0
Georgia Southern 47.5 31.0
Georgia State 45.0 29.5
Louisiana-Lafayette 52.5 39.5
Louisiana-Monroe 23.0 21.0
South Alabama 58.0 50.5
Texas State 61.5 46.5
Texas-Arlington 68.0 46.0
Troy 42.5 25.0
Hartwick (Associate) 3.0 3.0
Howard (Associate) 1.0 1.0
Idaho (Associate) 8.5 8.5
New Mexico State (Associate) 3.0 3.0

Now with all winter sports points complete. UTA is killing it in the SB sports they sponsor.

Down three sports to this point as well as the sports we have won usually don't have a full contingent of conference competition, I'd say we are an asset to this conference and a testament to a winning culture.

I also post this spreadsheet on Yosef's Cabin. UTA success was noted there as well.

Should be an interesting finish

Before coming to the sun belt our spring sports were what brought us from behind to win the sasser cup

What I call the country club sports were always strong--although our men's golf team is horrible now

Be fun to see how these sports "stack up" now
Women's golf usually was top team
Men's and women's tennis are normally top 2
Men's golf usually a standard bearer will finish at the bottom now

Our men do well the first 2 rounds then plummet in the final round.
Our women won last year then our AD let the coach go because he didn't want to pay him more. No idea what we have this year
