Updated for 23 Oct. Now includes 2016-2017 Championship information. Still not sure when first SB basketball game is as the conference website is showing 2015-2016 schedule still.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...edit#gid=0

Next week's edition will have some official points for XC.

2016-2017 Bubas Cup
That's a better start than last year for us. Men's basketball should help but women's will drop off from previous year.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
Updated through 29 October 2016. 3 of six fall sports completed. MSOC and VOL finish regular season later this week, though Volleyball will not have completed points until the championship is complete given how points are earned in divisional sports.

Just an idea but I wonder if it would look better if sports that are done were in a separate color from the sports where it is the standings as of now

For instance XC and women's soccer could be in black while men's soccer and girls volleyball are in a lighter color to signify based on standings as they are now and let them "go black" when done

The top of the columns are color coded. The gray cells are sports not in season yet. The white cells are in season and not complete, and the black cells are sports that are completed as far as the SB is concerned.

The actual text color indicates sports that earn points for the SB championship only and red text indicates regular season determines points regardless of the outcome of the SB championship. I need to make a third color for sports like Volleyball and I assume baseball that will have divisions. In this case the regular season is the major factor in determining points but the championship results does have some bearing on the points awarded.

I could continue the same color scheme for the actual points as well, but I think some color contrasts may may it hard to read for some. I'll play around with it next weekend and see how it goes.

Not a problem, and on my computer screen the color code is below the screen edge normally. I am always open to suggestions.

I am glad you enjoy following the Bubas Cup in progress.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
The Sunbelt does not have the MSOC standings updated with the last match between CCU and GaSt but the final score is posted on the CCU website so I added the points in and adjusted the standings myself.

Volleyball is still a bit of a guess since the divisions are in place. I continue to rank points from lowest conference percentage to highest regardless of division. I gave equal points to App State, Troy, and Ark St, even though App State is 5-0 to the other 4-0.

Assuming my numbers are correct for MSOC then 4 or 6 fall sports are complete.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
I did not post last weekend as I was going to wait until VB settled down and next thing you know the week was over. VB points are still not complete until the conf tourny is over. Divisional play has a few different rules. I ball parked the numbers and basically split each place down the middle. Truly final points for VB may have to wait until the points are posted on the SB website. I might post again tomorrow when all of the VB tounry results are known.

How Bubas Cup points are earned in sports with divisions.

9.2.1.1 - 12 points shall be awarded to the divisional winner that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.2 - 11 points shall be awarded to the other divisional winner.

9.2.1.3 - 10 points shall be awarded to the divisional second-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.4 - 9 points shall be awarded to the other divisional second-place team.

9.2.1.5 - 8 points shall be awarded to the divisional third-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.6 - 7 points shall be awarded to the other divisional third-place team.

9.2.1.7 - 6 points shall be awarded to the divisional fourth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.8 - 5 points shall be awarded to the other divisional fourth-place team.

9.2.1.9 - 4 points shall be awarded to the divisional fifth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament.

9.2.1.10 - 3 points shall be awarded to the other divisional fifth-place team.

9.2.1.11 - 2 points shall be awarded to the divisional sixth-place team that has the best finish in the Conference Tournament or the sixth place team which has the best winning percentage.

9.2.1.12 - 1 point shall be awarded to the other divisional sixth-place team based on winning percentage or place in the placement in the tournament.

That doesn't make sense. UTA finished 3rd in the west but they did better than the #2 team from the east in the regular season and the tournament.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
I guess the logic, and I am guessing here, is that it serves to even out divisions if lopsided in their W-L records. I was just cutting and pasting what was sent to me. I have no idea when this rule was established and how long it has been around. Divisions were a thing in the SB some years ago before most schools were part of the SB, save USA of course. The rule could hark back to decades ago or be a very recent addition/change to the Bubas rules.

I kind of agree with your thoughts, and I kind of agree with what they are doing with these rules. I still think tournament winners should get a little boost in points since that is the school that reps the SB in the NCAA tournaments.

RE: Bubas Cup 2016-2017
Really impressed with UTA averaging 9 points per sport offered so far. Hopefully their spring sports can keep up the pace, and they get pretty high in the standings even though they only offer 14 sports. Next year that goes to 15 with the addition of women's golf, although who knows how good a first year golf team can be.

A bit off topic here, but I'm still hoping we'll eventually get an announcement of adding football and women's soccer, hopefully in the next year or two. If my memory from UTSA starting football is correct, a school has to spend at least 2 years in FCS before transitioning to FBS, so it would behoove UTA to go ahead and start an FCS program so there's a chance of moving to FBS should the Sun Belt lose a school in the next round of realignment or if they ever decide to go up to 12 teams. The addition of women's soccer (along with golf) would put UTA at 16 sports offered in conference, right in line with most of the other schools.

I'm surprised Little Rock doesn't offer tennis. I know it's a long shot they ever start football, but adding men's and women's tennis would get them closer to the rest of the conference. I can't find any discussion on the matter, but it does appear there are tennis courts on campus.

Don't even need tennis courts on campus. A local club could rent courts, though that would increase the cost to run the program.

I can assure you the Mav athletic department takes the Bubas Cup very seriously. We added women's golf with an eye toward that. Our team will finish middle of the pack at worst in their first year, as we will have players who have been on scholarship and practicing for the past two years. Took a redshirt and one year of lost eligibility to do it, but we are serious about competing.

Also, rumors I'm hearing, with no teeth attached to them is that there is a possibility of a soccer add, both men and women on the horizon. Nothing official, just a preliminary look at both sports. I talk a little about it here: http://themaverickrambler.blogspot.com/2...sport.html
