I am surprised how much Conn is blabbing about this considering that they signed an NDA.

http://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-foot...story.html

I wonder if there is a reason that they are being so public?

The article says "interviews with as many as 11 schools begin this week".

Unfortunately, it practically guts the American.

I agree with you. I also think the odds that they don't expand at all are pretty close to zero. They will add at least two.

As strong as BYU is as a brand and an athletic competitor, I still have my doubts that they'll add BYU. I also still don't believe that they will expand by two if Houston is one of the two. It shifts more power to Texas and fails to accomplish one of the primary goals of expansion: expanding the footprint of the league.

And I agree with both you two... The 4 programs mention above make to much sense, all of them bring plenty worth to the table to be highly considered. I also believe the addition of UConn will strengthen the basketball side much much more $$$.

One scenario brought up by U conn fans on why they are being so public is their hope that some other conference will swoop in and steal U conn from the big 12. I respect so many opinions but I think that scenario is wildly fantastic.

I have no doubt that UConn is working very hard behind the scenes to get the ACC's attention. There is a probably good case for the argument that adding UConn would help the ACCN in the NYC TV market. My gut reaction would be that the ACC doesn't need any additional help, but I'm sure ESPN has some sophisticated analyses that could be used to figure out the value.

Its looks like, if its 2 teams: Cincinnati and Houston.

If 4 teams: Cincinnati, Houston, BYU and Connecticut .

If the ACC is only interested in UConn's basketball (who wouldn't be interested in that) why not add them as the 16th school for everything other than FB for now and give them some late season FB games to ease them into indy status?

Our AD has probably pestered your commish to death by now. UTEP expects to have a very good crowd for the Army game on 9/17. Our admin should fly some MWC big wigs in for a get together.

Rice would be the top pick to join with UTEP but Rice probably has it's sites set on the AAC for now.

03-yes 03-yes

It is almost impossible to exaggerate how amateurish, indecisive, desperate, silly, and incompetent the Big <XII's leadership has made itself appear to be throughout this process.

Agreed, but, I'll go further and say that if nobody makes this, maybe it's time some of these rejected schools band together and start discussing some legal actions against these power conferences and the networks who seem to have way too much say in these matters, and why schools can enter such toxic arrangements.

Thats not going to happen and they have no legal leg to stand on. Conferences are private clubs. You can't sue a private club for not inviting you to be a member, even if that said membership has perks that you would really like to have.

Through out this process, at one point or another, it's been reported or assumed that Memphis, then CSU, then others were part of the final 4.

There has been nothing obvious about who the final 4 was going to be.

FWIW, these were my four picks from the beginning. However, you are correct that UConn's status as one of the consensus favorites has not previously been established.

No school's status as one of the favorites has been established. All we have is conjecture and a bunch of CR geeks on the internet giving their opinions, along with some wildly uninformed local sports writers.

The early speculation is that UT would actively block Houston...and then the Governor spoke and suddenly perception changed. But we still don't know if UT wants UH at all cost, or despises them them most.

UConn, BYU and Cinci, in that order, have the largest G5 AD budgets. They have the best known brands. They are each above the academic median for the Big 12. Two of them are in big markets and the other has a unique national following. I think they've been the top 3 all along.

No. SMU is 2nd after UConn. As for Cincinnati, USA Today has them at 4th for 2014-15, but another list has them behind UCF, USF and Houston (and possibly others-but there are a bunch of schools grouped from $40-$52 million).

I'm hearing that the Houston and Air Force presentations of today went incredibly well.

The academics of Air Force were a huge selling point.

It's really too bad for UConn that their football isn't great. They'd be a shoo-in for one of the three conferences. State flagship, great market, great great great hoopsx2, good academic chops. Obviously geography is a sorta problem with the XII, but I'm not convinced they really care that much. If only the football was much better.

UCONN football has been mediocre since moving up to FBS... really no different than recent call-ups/new members Colorado, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse, and Pitt in that same tired period.

UCONN having said mediocre football was a detriment to the ACC, however, I'm not so sure it's a bad thing for the Big 10 or Big 12.

Yeah, true. The ACC had a football problem, so it's not unreasonable that they'd avoid UConn despite being a near perfect fit otherwise. The XII and the B1G don't have football problems.

As a college hoops fan, I would be absolutely loving the idea of UConn in the XII with Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, WVU, and (recently) Iowa State and Baylor. Those OU-Kansas games last year were some of the best regular season basketball I've seen in the last few years.

Think you should take all four if BYU is football only. No brainer, but will ESPN be compensated fairly?

Connecticut's football is certainly better than Kansas. Like Kansas, Connecticut basketball is an elite program. Additionally, UConn's women's basketball program does not currently have an equal.

Other than geography, Connecticut is an ideal pick-up for the Big XII.

Add Temple and Cincinnati, and...

Temple doesn't bring anything besides Philli, and they have no hope of competing against those football powers, and Philli only cares about their football. If they had a better Bball program and a campus outside the city then you'd get some traction. Not a fit culturally let along geographically.
