there is no questioning the timing and how it was disappointing/surprising from a fan base perspective...
however, coaching is a year to year prop in the wallet dept.....and what we can afford in relative terms will ALWAYS be an issue in today's schema
my only beef at that time was I think he opted out a year too early and will lose out on future potential in earnings coupled with teaching/developing young men at the collegiate level....
Hop inherited one helluva cast of characters....that is a testament to what Monken developed and helped rebuild after the 2012 fiasco....
I'm certain he will always have a soft spot for the 'burg....
I wish him and his family nothing but the best!
Monk's third year was looking like his last, UNTIL he brought in some JUCO guys, took a chance on beaucoup transfers, and hired UAB's strength coach. In retrospect, he looked like a miracle worker...BUT...it coulda (and probably shoulda) "backfarred"!
I look back on the MSUcks game last year, and recall one of the turning points in our season: The Bullpuppys were beginning to take over the game after we had screwed the pooch a couple of times in the 1st half....and the players, corches and fans alike were thinking, "Uh oh, here we go, it's deja vu all over again"...and just as a Bully player was about to score and probably put the game outta reach, out of nowhere came Antoine to knock him silly and jar the ball loose at the goal line. That's just one play you say? Hayell yeah...but Antoine did NOT give up on that ONE play, good things happened, and THAT play and a few similar ones by our newer players SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!
..and it looks like that example is continuing: Just because we get behind or have bad things happen, doesn't mean we are out of the game, nor does it mean "Uh oh, here we go again!" (I call that a Tulane/Memphis football disease from waaay back
)
That new mentality obviously showed it's face last Saturday, when most of us (including yours truly) thought we were outta the game..
Oh yeah...as for our Strength corch: We looked as in-shape as I have ever seen us....lean and mean and muscular, w/out those paunches we have seen from years past.
