I'm thinking 5-7, but that's only because I also think we will beat Army.

Also interesting is the huge disparity between Massey and Sagarin. Really unclear as to whether WKU is really good or we just made them look fantastic.

I'm guessing we split the two UTSA games: win at home and lose on the road?

I know it gets tiring for me to have to wade through your arguments. Most of us could write your posts for you, we know your positions and passions so well. Surely those of you who want change could find a more productive way to spend your time to actually improve Rice football, like soliciting former classmates and friends who aren't currently engaged with Rice football to become engaged? Or to talk with Altherr athletic department about what needs to be done and be the squeaky wheel with the people that actually make decisions?!? And the folks who still have some sliver of faith in Bailiff as a successful coach at at Rice, surely you could also find a more productive use of your time as well, that benefits Rice athletics?

I am not asking everyone to shut up ... but perhaps just limiting your discussions to a few comments a week to remind us of your points, or starting your own thread to argue, or deciding to cut-off the discussions after 2-3 days? Negotiating peace in Syria is probably an easier task. Serious question, do you guys actually enjoy this type of engagement with each other? If so, maybe I am in the wrong, and carry-on! But it doesn't seem fun for you and it certainly isn't productive.

Just remember, win or lose, whether Rice #firebailiff or gives him a lifetime extension and a raise because he's such a great guy, the season is long and will give us much more to talk about. Can't wait for the basketball threads, those are so much more pleasant...

My bad! The second UTSA should have been UTEP at 121.

So I guess that projects to 4-8, or 3-9 if you throw in Ant's lay-an-egg game.

I'd bet none of them (HC's) are in favor of that.

Much was said during their game about how the average distance their recruit is away from Houston is 32 miles. That's great for a conference without a presence here... but horrible for one with one

As I understand it, Sagarin includes FCS schools and Massey doesn't. The few cross-division upsets probably wreaks havoc with Massey. How do you rank a loss to a team you don't rank at all?

They opened very disparate as well : WKU was 36 in Massey and 60 something in Sagarin. Despite Sagain including FCS, such large swings are pretty rare and they tend to not occur as much with teams in the top 50.

Your point makes a lot of sense. It is certainly interesting.

It is sad to consider that Rice and North Texas were the only BCS teams to lose last weekend. North Texas lost to SMU.

Right now it looks like the Army game is one of the key ones as to helping determine our likely season.

I will agree. But I do seem to recall the basketball threads got nearly as bad around the end of the WTW and Braun regimes.

I don't think they were quite as bad, just because at least some of the blame for the downturn at the end of the Braun era was because of Greenspan, rather than just Braun. In retrospect, I'm glad Braun hung around as long as he did, because I don't think Greenspan makes as good of a hire! I wasn't really paying attention in the WTW days.

The Thresher barely mentioned this game -- both before or after (and got the score wrong, saying it was 13-7). But the AP story of this game is pretty interesting: https://www.newspapers.com/image/85076901/

Rice was "heralded as an unorthodox Southwestern conference club that might do anything with the ball but barbecue it." But "Rice laid aside its hocus pocus" ... took advantage of "siege gun kicking and long-distance punt returns by Jake Schuehle, husky son of the Hondo, Tex., sheriff" and scored on two short runs (1 foot and 2 yards) by "fullback Friedman."

The Owls were outgained (271-118), had only 8 first downs (to 13 for Georgia) and 4 of its 9 passes were intercepted (only 2 were completed)! (On the positive side, Rice had no penalty yards, compared with 56 for the hometown Bulldogs; a clipping penalty nullified a 94-yard Georgia TD run.)
