Golden Flashes now trail the Nittany Lions 6-3. For some reason Penn State went for two after a TD and didn't make it.

RE: News about 2016 football opponents/MAC teams not on UT's schedule
Ohio leads Texas State 6-0 after the first quarter.

Miami trails Iowa 21-7 early in the second quarter.

Kent State was knocking on the door and could have taken the lead but the KSU quarterback was called for grabbing the face mask of a defender. That cost the Golden Flashes 15 yards. Then there was an illegal procedure penalty, followed by a loss on the next play. It was 3rd and goal from the 26 and there was no gain on that play. 43-yard field goal was good and it's tied at 6 in Happy Valley.

Ohio and Texas State going to overtime tied at 38. Ohio led by 3 with 1:40 left and fumbled. Texas State got a touchdown to go ahead by four, Ohio broke a long one to go ahead by 3, then Texas State tied it on the last play of regulation with a field goal.

Ohio loses to Texas State 56-54 in three overtimes. Each team scored a touchdown in the third overtime. As everybody here probably knows, the rule now is that you have to go for two starting in the third overtime if you get a TD. Texas State converted, Ohio quarterback was sacked on the 2-point try.

Some key games for the MAC (aside, of course, from our game, as all Rocket games are important):

#4. How competitive is CMU against Oklahoma State?
#3. Does Ohio respond after their disappointing loss and get the win against Kansas?
#2. Is Ball State finally back? Test at Indiana may reveal the answer.
#1. I find it hard to believe that Northern played poorly enough to lose to Wyoming...huge game delay due to weather had to factor in and it went to 3 OTs...chance for the Huskies to right the ship against South Florida.

Gonna be thinkin' big as long as it's remotely realistic…we have a strong team and have a schedule with not a single power 5 opponent, which is rare. Hasn't happened since 2005. Can post some gaudy win totals, but we lack the opportunity for a 'statement' win. Pretty much need our opponents to do as well as they can so that we can maximize our benefit for beating them. Could be the difference between us needing Houston to lose 2 games or lose 3 games for us to pass them. But man, those were some head scratching losses by Ohio U. and NIU yesterday.

BYU and Western Michigan will be the games that have a chance to impress poll voters. I do not expect the team to be playing on New Years -even if we run the table. What I could see is a top 15 ranking. That would be awesome.

That's a good place to start, especially with Whiteside coming back for 2017...

Good post! Last year with their marquee win over Arkansas of the SEC, had the Rockets gone undefeated they would have clearly gotten the nod over the rest of the G5 for the New Years Day BIG Bowl game---and even with one loss, had they won the MACC they would had still been a strong contender with a great chance for the top spot and the G5 New Years Day game, but alas that did not happen.

This year the stars are not aligned nearly so well for Toledo as they were last year. Houston, with the bowl win over Florida State and now knocking off #3 ranked Oklahoma have placed themselves clearly at the top of the G5 with plenty of breathing room below them. This is also a very impressive audition by them for a Big 12 invitation and it will be very hard to keep them out of the BIG TIME.

Houston should easily slide into the Top 10 in both polls this week and with a non challenging schedule they should begin to slowly ascend in the polls by attrition. By the time they face a serious challenge again they could be in the top 5----in fact they could even go undefeated, although that is always hard to do. Still an undefeated Toledo team (as unlikely as that is) IMHO would not surpass a one loss Houston team and possibly not even a two loss Houston team this year. Without a marquee win the Rocket will probably have to go 6-0 or better break the Top 25 and meanwhile Houston will have moved high enough in the Top 10 that even a loss will not drop them below an undefeated Toledo team.

It way too early to be counting one's chickens, but as you sort of pointed out, if wait too long, you may find you don't have chickens to count.

I think this year has the potential to be better than next year. We lose way too much on offence next year -----OL, top RB, TE, WR/KR

Of course I thought the same thing about the defense this year and yet it looked pretty good Friday night, so who knows?
