Admit it's strange to see someone from Mis'is'ippi pull for Eagles and Bears, but at my age I've seen so much stranger shat, it doesn't really bother me anymore..
Believe me, I go back a ways. Played jr high school ball with JJ Stewart. I also know that a very large portion of the reason USM is in the position it is today is because of ole miss. The decision to quit playing us was a killer to our momentum back then. Done intentionally and with malice and it worked. MSU followed (because that is what they do) and the path was laid to irrelevance in our state. We went from a near equal in our state to just another JSU overnight.
For this I will forever hold a grudge against TSUN.
Could the administration have done better? Sure. But it was written on the wall from that point on, from the stacked college board on down, this state will not allow a successful USM athletic program.
Disastrous hires in the last 20 years at four key positions at different times (once each at football, basketball and president and twice at AD) did more than anything OM or MSU ever could do to hurt us. It's almost criminal how our "leadership" consistently failed us in the last 20 years, both academically and athletically. Put the blame in the right place and do something about it. Bennett and McGillis were handed a big steaming pile of TTT. And we are not out of the woods yet.
Blame OM all you want. They only wish they could hurt like we were hurt by our own efforts.
Nothing has hurt us more than the legislature of this state. I have observed it all my life. Every time that this little teachers college experienced any kind of success, weather it be on the athletic fields or in the classrooms that threatened Ole Miss action was taken. Computer engineering taken from us,Nursing school lead taken from us,a complete library of law books that would have been donated to us not allowed.Salting down of our accounting and business schools which at one time was one of the hottest schools in the nation, refusing us a school of pharmacy. This is just n my lifetime.if you don't understand that State and Ole Miss have us positioned exactly where they want us,then you do not understand the political dynamics of this state. The Delta Council lives on.
Tell em tee. As a non alumni it never ceases to amaze me how utterly ignorant the fanbase can be when it comes to academic history at USM.
On the gridiron Ole Piss was perfectly content beating the snot out of Mississippi Southern for years. Along comes Southern Miss who started beating Ole Myth more often than not and they ran back to Oxfart in their pink sweaters with matching panties with teddy bears stuffed between their legs like the chicken dung they proved themselves to be.

Only problem with that is they were not pink with matching panties back then. They were still the cornerstone of conservatism.
What you used to hear in the grove in those days.
Dear, isnt the Grove lovely this time of year?
Do you really think Leon (Bramlett) has a chance?

I don't have any issue with her not attending USM. I can't imagine how awkward it would be to be a student at the same University at which your dad is the president. Or to be a professor with the president's daughter in your class. Or be the best friend of the president's daughter as you go about doing stupid college things you probably ought not be doing, but will survive and learn from the experience. It's probably best for everybody to just go to school somewhere else and avoid that whole situation.
I kinda wish she'd picked somewhere else besides UM, though. Dad gets free housing. He can afford out of state tuition.
