How good he is remains to be seen, but I'm extremely confident that he's better than average. And there is no chance he is Ellis Johnson I assure you that. To be honest, the players seem to like him better than they liked Monken.

I had the chance to meet him on the field at halftime of the spring game. Later that night I saw him in the parking lot of Crescent City Grill. He came over and started talking to me, even leaned up against somebody's car. Just as casual and comfortable as could be. We talked for probably about 5 minutes or so and I never once got the impression that he was trying to get away or just blow me off. He will win at USM and I think he genuinely wants to be here and build it up.

These have been and will be the majority of interactions you'll see with the guy. And yes, he'll do OK here and have the opportunity to move on to better things.

Yep that's Jay. He's just as casual as can be around people. Very rare for a college football coach. Most act like they don't want to be bothered. But Jay is a different breed. He genuinely likes talking to people and will remember faces most of the time. I've met him on several occasions and you won't find a more approachable guy.
