According to the letter from the Park Board I copied and passed out at an ALL ACCESS radio broadcast from the Valley Ave. Full Moon BBQ years ago, the 3,100+ SCs (each good for two seats on the 50) are now held by about 1600 persons. Their present value is probably greatly diminished from the 1960s and 70s when they commanded about $3,000 each in 1960's money (MSRP for a Chevy Bel Air was about $3,000).

Many were bought up on the secondary market during the years AU and UA played important conference (LSU, UGA, UTK) and OOC (USC for instance) games annually at Legion Field. For instance, Crawford Johnson (Coca-Cola bottler) bought up many for business reasons, and his family may still hold them. They are a legally binding contract agreement in perpetuity between the SC holders and the City of B'ham as long as football - college or pro - is played at Legion Field.

Note from the cited article - the SC holder can only be charged face value for the ticket itself. Once schools and the NFL began charging premium fees to buy tickets for each game, the seller stood to lose over $6 million for every $1,000 premium they could not collect for the best seats for a game in B'ham. That later applied to UAB as well, and negatively impacted UAB's "bottom line" as well for many years leading up to 2014.

At least one BT poster has claimed that UAB has sold tickets from the SC reserved seats in legal violation of this contract. SC reserved tickets for individual games can only be legally sold to the public 7 days prior to each game. Perhaps the ticket office clerk didn't know any better.

Check with T.C. Cannon & wife about their two or Mr Hutcherson at Ramsay HS who inherited one. All 3 attend almost every UAB home game.
