She looked good in her first crack at the 100m tonight. Coasted to a victory in her heat and advances to the next round.

Has Southern Miss ever had a gold medal winner? Hell, any Olympic medal winners? I think she can be our first but I could be wrong...I usually am.

As best I can tell we've never had an American Olympian. We had a European woman in 2012( can't remember her name, she won the NCAA title in the triple jump) and a Liberian in the women's 400 ( Mariam Kromah) this year. She does not appear to be in medal contention, though.

we've had a few 16 oz curl Olympians...

I cant remember her name but in the barcelona games we had a faculty members wife who was on the swim team. I think she won a couple individual silvers and a relay gold. Thats the closest i know of
