My thoughts exactly … it’s not as if Rhodes ever gave indications he wanted to be at Rice this long. Might as well have a similar thread continuing to fantasize about Pierce taking over for Graham in the mid-2010s. On second thought … please don’t!

I'd just like to see our program surpass the previous Head Coach, and/or the program he took our stars away to, especially since we might find them conference mates in the near future. The past few years, we've been in contention neck and neck at least through non-conference season in hoops. It's kind of a barometer for moving the program forward, and/or additional info on evaluating the current coach. Heck, we're still waiting to see Bloom surpass Bailiff, which should've been a layup. But Rice historically not too good at bunnies. Anyway, don't have to view the thread if you don't care.

RE: Rhoades vs Rice basketball Thread
So, here's where we ended the season in the artificial race of Rice vs VCU vs Penn State in Men's Hoops:

Rice Owls 5-13 .278 11-21 .344 Dead last AAC
VCU Rams 11-7 .611 22-13 .629 T4th A-10
PSU Lions(nittany) 9-11 .450 16-17 .485 T9th B1G

Still waiting for Rice to surpass an active previous coach, or the VCU teams that were to be a somewhat model of what we could do here at Rice in Men's BB (conference champs, NCAA tourney appearances and success in tournament, et cetera...) It has been since 1970 since last Rice NCAA Men's appearance. Thank goodness the Women helped us out this year with their run through the AAC tourney. Good luck to them in their NCAA appearance(s).

Fact check: you can only use the term “dead last” for 14th place (without ties)

We were only “lame-last” (5-way tie for 10th thru 14th) in the regular season.

And only “lame-last” T-13 in the tourney.

We even have the tiebreaker against utsa cause we beat Memphis , UAB, and Temple 03-wink

So not “dead” last. Just one-of-the-last!

Okay, I copied the previous standings post from earlier in the season and left the "dead" nomenclature in there. I see what you are saying, so there are differences in last, and different last among lasts. That doesn't seem to make it any better, but I stand corrected. Would that we were having the same discussion and correction but were discussing differences among firsts and different firsts among firsts...but here we are on S. Main, so...the "Rice Way" rules again....sigh...

So, the point of this now 7-1/2 yearlong post is Rice sucks at Men's basketball. We get it. Can we finally put these increasingly silly comparisons out of their misery?

So I expect him to have some success over time, which could be said about Braun, Rhodes, and Pera's tenures. Can he surpass those and take us to the tournament is the real question. AD must've thought so. I just hope the AD wasn't thinking he's good enough for Rice just because he was coaching at SMU.

OK, I'll add SMU to the list in this thread and keep track for you...thanks for askin'...
