RE: I believe its time to put ODU in their place....
The Virginia Pilot writer and some message board fans on the AAC site have been touting ODU as a prime expansion candidate for that conference. When that happens, the ODU fan base, like any fan base, jumps all over it with great enthusiasm. I don't blame them for that no matter how obnoxious it is to the schools like Marshall and USM that believe they should be next in line.

I don't think ODU will in reality be a strong candidate if the AAC backfills or expands regardless of their athletic budget. I think they are too new to FBS and their FB stadium, even after expansion, is too small.

Both Tulsa and Tulane have 30k stadiums while ODU will go from 20k to 22k after expansion. That does not sound like an AAC type facility. Also I noted ODU has only been in FBS for a short while. Both Tulsa and Tulane have much more time and history at the higher level.

Wrong. After expansion is complete ODU's football stadium will be over 30K capacity.

We could add the upper deck for an additional 12 mil or so which would probably be doable if we needed to. That would raise capacity to around 28k I think. The more expensive parts of phase two is the end zone and boxes.

In the end though I think you're right. Lack of football performance/history and FB facilities are going to keep us down on the list. If it happened 5 years down the road we might be in better position.

When you build it, or, if you build it, the capacity will only be 22,000.

He said after expansion fartknocker, we are in essence building a brand new football stadium that will be one of the highest quality venues in football. With the Ainslie Complex that is already present we will "eventually" have a top notch 30K stadium that cost us $150 million to build. A move up to another conference could dictate how fast that expansion happens. Get off your high horse, I thought Marshall could barely finance a football bbq this year with all your financial issues.

The new stadium proposal that was approved by the ODU Board of Governors will be built in two phases, with total capacity after expansion being just over 30K. As to "time and history at the higher level", I'm not sure that I have seen that being listed by the AAC (or any other conference) as a criterion for future members, but if I have missed it, please point me in the right direction.

As a Monarch fan, I would like to say that it has been a whirlwind of a ride since the return to football was announed just over ten years ago. From winning the first game against Chowan in 2009; to making the FCS playoffs in 2011; to winning the CAA and again going to the playoffs in 2012; to being invited to join C-USA; to playing our first FBS game against ECU in a really close game in Greenville in 2013; to winning six games and being bowl eligible in 2014, our first C-USA season; to falling just short of being bowl eligible in 2015, losing the last game in a thriller to FAU; to being mentioned as a candidate for inclusion in the AAC -- it's been one hell of a ride to this point.

I, for one, am really happy and excited that ODU is a member of C-USA. We have played NC State at home, and future home schedules include North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, and East Carolina. None of this would be possible if we were still in the CAA. And, by the way, we are only one game shy of being .500 in conference play with wins over Rice, LA Tech, UTEP, UTSA, FIU, FAU, and Charlotte.

So, yes, Monarch fans are excited about ODU football. Life is good, and even better things are on the horizon. I'm looking forward to this fall, when I believe the Monarchs will be a force to be reckoned with and will win more games than they lose.

See you around campus.

ODU fans have gotten to big for their britches. So has their coach with his recent whining at the media day because ODU was picked 5th in the East.

It's time for the other teams in CUSA to actually put them in their place. Don't hold back this year.

Hang 100 if we can!

Well, if you're "expanding" and not "building", are you feeding your stadium more calories so it "expands"?

Hopefully you will be this season.

Point of the OP was that its time for the rest of CUSA to stop taking it easy on you guys on the field.

It was 42-0 in the first half the first time we played. I was proud of our staff for taking it easy on you, but had I known what a douchebag fan base you had, I would have wanted to hang 100 on you.

Then again, history says you will quit if the game gets too out of hand!

Maybe Marshall fans will pick up after themselves in Norfolk and act with some class. When they came to Charlotte last year, 50% of them acted like they had their first beer. Witnessed everything from some of them throwing trash in Toby Creek to a couple of them trying smoke in the stadium, essentially ignoring common decency.

Also, Wilder is a huge crybaby FWIW.
