Toledo Christian hoops star Royal-Davis in recruiting holding pattern

She holds a Toledo offer, but Cullop has said that the 2021 class is closed ... although there should be 3 spots open, and we have only heard of 2 verbals so far.

If Cullop thought she had the inside track to land Royal-Davis, I'm guessing Cullop would have held a spot for at least a while. Royal-Davis is a pretty high-level recruit. There's a good chance that another scholarship will open up, but we probably won't know that until after the 20-21 season.

Too much work to scroll through the thread and see who has committed in 2021.

Jessica Cook from New York and Areionna Ware from Battle Creek, Michigan. Both are inside players.

Ware I see listed now at 6'0, and probably projects as a stretch 4-5, as her tape shows she can hit the 3 at least occasionally. IIRC, she already has the career records for most points and rebounds at her HS - for either boys or girls. Has a career high 51, points, again if I recall correctly.
Cook at 6'2 appears to be more of a traditional big-bodied 5, although I have not found much film at all. She was 1st team all-state in NY as a junior- in what I think is the big school division. Given the population of NY state , that's a heck of an accomplishment.

However, in the team's last home game, she played only long enough to win the opening tap. Her team then fouled to stop the clock, and she was subbed out. Even healthy, though, I doubt that Bolser will be ready to help as a freshman, even though we are not strong at her position. I expect that Cullop will do what she did after Whitaker's season ended, which is use Lance and Morgan-Elliot to back up Beacham.
It was great to hear Cullop talk a bit about the new recruits. It sounds like Perdue may be the one most ready to help right away. The discussion of this past season was a serious spin job. Cullop's take: We had a very tough schedule with close losses and some harmful injuries, but we were poised to win the MAC tournament if the season had not ended prematurely due to COVID. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.
Maybe that was her senior night home game, but it was reported on twitter that Bolser scored 20 points in Mississinewa's final game of the season (playoff loss).
I hear what you are saying about Cullop's take on the season, but it seems clear now that Black was hurt a lot worse than was let on, which was likely the reason for her big shooting slump which probably cost UT a few wins. Still haven't heard why Nakiah decided to forgo her senior season, but am guessing injuries played a part in that decision. I did see that she graduated, so wish the best of luck to her and the other seniors.
Following the early two-game tourney in Las Vegas, Nakiah Black left the arena wearing a boot. She told me that it was a precaution. I am questioning that statement in hind sight. BTW, she was selected to the All-Tournament team.

Well that's ... not good. Wonder what prompted that.
I had been excited about next year when I thought we would have Beacham and Black back as seniors, plus the rise of Lockett and Wiard, but now. Seems like this could be a lost season - if there is one.

After doing nothing her first two seasons (3.9/3.6ppg), except getting free tuition, housing and medical care, she finally has a decent season and wants to leave.

I don't understand the beef. She graduated. What's wrong with wanting to go somewhere else for grad school? That's not rare.

why the hostility? because a talented young person receives basic housing, medical care and education. not trying to veer too much into politics. but in the wealthiest country in the world bursting with resources shouldn't that be the normal expectation for everyone? and if tanaya had gone to another university, graduated, and returned to toledo for her last year would you still insinuate that she is ungrateful? she played for her hometown school, got a UT degree and wants to use her skills and accomplishments to go to a grad school really good in something she likes or to have a year with a different type of basketball opportunity.

no! Not at that age and that level of education. The player earned those things in agreed contract. That is what is wrong with the original statement.

RE: WBB Recruiting
This is awful news. The Rockets could not afford this loss. We will never know the reasons behind this, but the decision came very late.
Several of us complained over the years that Beacham never got enough playing time, and that includes last year. Whitaker was a great addition to the team, but Beacham was by far the better player, to my untrained eye. Nonetheless, Whitaker started and got slightly more minutes. After Whitaker's season ended, Beacham really shined.
Beacham's major minutes next year seemed assured, with Lexi Lance and incoming freshman Caily Bolser being the only other players at her position. The 2020-21 season was already a questionable one, given that we lost four starters (including Whitaker) from a 9th place team. Now I can't imagine how we possibly will be any good at all.
The temptation (for some) is to be mad at Beacham for letting us down. I am sorely disappointed at her departure, but she owed us fans nothing. Most of us would take a new job in a heartbeat if we thought it offered a better opportunity. This seems the same to me.

i counter that both statements are accurate. yes, she earned those things per a contract, but, everything is contractual in some sense. whether it's a scholarship agreement, a set of social mores, how you treat your family. some contracts are written, some extrapolated, some are understood. when my daughter is in college or graduates, i don't want to worry about her being homeless, or without proper doctors, or unable to explore academic passions. to me that should be part of her country's contract with her. instead we have a contract with the market and all those human necessities must be navigated as a transaction.

I wonder how much of her disappointment was in not playing much her first three years and feeling she should have. The athleticism was there but opportunities to display it were limited. Maybe she felt under-appreciated. I hope our freshman big is healed and ready.

Yeah yeah yeah :) everybody gets a trophy.
I seem to recall there were actually studies on why this doesn't work. It backfires. It's certainly corporate welfare for the university system but it leads to unmotivated students populating your classrooms (or not) and worse, your dorms.
Even the poorest in our richest country has to learn the skills to survive college and much of that battle is gaining the intellectual and economic resources to get there. There is so much scholarship money floating around unused, MUCH more than when we went to school, often because of us, anyone who has earned college and goes into a degree that actually has a chance to earn money, will get by.
Old guy
I wrinkled my hands in the dorm kitchen, the whipper-snappers can do the same.
