RE: WBB Recruiting
Couple things about Bolser. I think you are right, northcoast, that she will be healthy for the season. However, in the team's last home game, she played only long enough to win the opening tap. Her team then fouled to stop the clock, and she was subbed out. Even healthy, though, I doubt that Bolser will be ready to help as a freshman, even though we are not strong at her position. I expect that Cullop will do what she did after Whitaker's season ended, which is use Lance and Morgan-Elliot to back up Beacham.

It was great to hear Cullop talk a bit about the new recruits. It sounds like Perdue may be the one most ready to help right away. The discussion of this past season was a serious spin job. Cullop's take: We had a very tough schedule with close losses and some harmful injuries, but we were poised to win the MAC tournament if the season had not ended prematurely due to COVID. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.

Maybe that was her senior night home game, but it was reported on twitter that Bolser scored 20 points in Mississinewa's final game of the season (playoff loss).

I hear what you are saying about Cullop's take on the season, but it seems clear now that Black was hurt a lot worse than was let on, which was likely the reason for her big shooting slump which probably cost UT a few wins. Still haven't heard why Nakiah decided to forgo her senior season, but am guessing injuries played a part in that decision. I did see that she graduated, so wish the best of luck to her and the other seniors.

Cullop is always worth listening to, but this particular time, she gave out some new recruiting tidbits, saying that they have filled the final scholarship spot with JUCO player Cassandra Colon who has signed a LOI. If did my googling right, she played at Community College of Philadelphia. 5'9 Wing, who was conference POY, averaging 22 points, 10 boards and 4 assists, according to:
https://www.phillytrib.com/sports/ccp-wo...bcf47.html
Cullop said she can really shoot the 3.

Coach also said the '21 roster is full, but could not comment on them. We know about Cook and Ware, but haven't heard about the 3rd recruit.

She talked a little about each of the '20 players so that's worth a listen. Perdue she said is a pure scorer and they will look right away to get her opportunities to score. Goss said to be a 3/4 whose D is ahead of her offense right now, but said she's a tremendous athlete and Coach compared her defensive skills to Andola Dortch and Cre Smith. On Idowu, said they were watching her club team to recruit other players, but she just kept standing out. Said she's a gym rat and a leader who led her team in pretty much every category. Bolser she said will be a face-up 5, who can step out and hit the 3 and thus can present match up problems. Said she will be needed to help fill in for the graduation of Whitaker. Not much specific about Mikonowicz just that they are excited to have her.

Anything about Bosler's health? We need bigs!

Just commented that she broke her hand this past season and was disappointed she couldn't play her senior year. But, she was back and playing for her team's last game, so no reason to think she isn't fine.

That was her second break within a year. Right?

Reportedly. One of them was reported to be from a car accident or some such thing. Not sure the cause of the other one, but it's possible they both were just bad luck.

Thanks for the correction on Bolser. I did read about her senior night and thought that was the end for her. A ton of new faces for the Rockets next year, including Yani Curry and the return of Jaela Johnson. I can't wait to see who steps up.

Walk on. This is great news. I wonder what Cullop has up her sleeve with the last scholarship, since it wasn't offered to Mikonowicz.

While some high-school students dream of bolting town and going as far away as possible to attend college, that was never a priority for Rossford senior Sammi Mikonowicz.

Love it. If only more local players had that mentality. There's been a ton of DI talent in NW Ohio over the last few decades. Could you imagine if Cullop could miraculously sign that VanSlooten player? Hometown hero....

With our retention rate of NDA recruits I doubt we have a shot at her. IMO we should get most of the best WBB players out of the city with our WBB program. Not sure why this doesn't happen. Strange with all that we have going for our women.03-banghead

There is a very big gap between Grace VanSlooten (#14 in the class of 2022) and the players who pick Toledo. That's a pie in the sky being shot out of a pipe dream. When someone can literally go anywhere, for free, for four years, why would they choose to go right down the street and compete against MAC competition and not have a chance to play in the big games they've become accustomed to playing in? I love Toledo as much as anyone, but I made the same choice she will, and anyone else of that level, including NDA's incoming freshman point guard out of Lake, will do the same.

Do agree that Grace is an elite recruit BearCat. WBB is a totally different animal. I'm of the opinion that we should have a top 30 program given the state of women's hoops over the country. No one has average program and our attendance. We have an average program with top 40 attendance that could even be better. I'll keep my pie in the sky shot out of a pipe dream. 05-deadhorse

Yeah but some people go to school to go to school. Regardless love for the alma-mater, it just doesn't have the programs or the connections of some of these other programs available to a Van Sloot level player. We're either getting them because they have a pre-existing love and the uni has a particular and unique program or relationship they're interested in or existential need to be near "home." Even at that, we'd be competing with UM.

But if you don't try.... UToledo definitely should offer and recruit but no one should hold any level of unsuccess upon staff for not getting that verbal.

Oh absolutely we should! I mean, I'd put our atmosphere for most games up against anyone but the best of the best. The issue is that unlike the other high end sports (football, men's basketball), most higher level recruits are looking at academic considerations far more highly in women's basketball, since professional options are limited and fairly unattractive. We're currently getting lapped in just about every academic area by quite a bit of schools regionally, and even more nationally, that we blow out of the water with respect to actual support of the program.

Toledo Christian hoops star Royal-Davis in recruiting holding pattern

She holds a Toledo offer, but Cullop has said that the 2021 class is closed ... although there should be 3 spots open, and we have only heard of 2 verbals so far.

If Cullop thought she had the inside track to land Royal-Davis, I'm guessing Cullop would have held a spot for at least a while. Royal-Davis is a pretty high-level recruit. There's a good chance that another scholarship will open up, but we probably won't know that until after the 20-21 season.

Ware I see listed now at 6'0, and probably projects as a stretch 4-5, as her tape shows she can hit the 3 at least occasionally. IIRC, she already has the career records for most points and rebounds at her HS - for either boys or girls. Has a career high 51, points, again if I recall correctly.

Cook at 6'2 appears to be more of a traditional big-bodied 5, although I have not found much film at all. She was 1st team all-state in NY as a junior- in what I think is the big school division. Given the population of NY state , that's a heck of an accomplishment.
