Did that kid graduate? It left off as him needing to graduate this past spring to be eligible for UAB.

Here are some of my takeaways/SPOILERS (finished last night):

1) coach is a D bag. This doc has to hurt his recruiting. Although I'd be all in for Season 2.
2) For a JUCO they have really nice facilities, uniforms and equipment.
3) The academic advisor doesn't get paid enough; might be on greenies; and is kind of hot.
4) The guy that "roars" at the games should win an award for unintentional comedy.
5) The homecoming queen thing was kind of weird. Do people really care about that in college? Maybe its a southern thing.
6) This is probably true in a lot of places around the U.S., but I bet most of those kids can't read above a 4th grade level. Some of the adults too. The kids that made it out of there to play more football better hope they graduate or make it to the NFL.
7) I'm surprised that other QB didn't get any better offers than Miss College. Not SEC or anything, but higher than D2 at least. I suppose he might have and they didn't mention it and he was "SEC or bust."
8) That QB thats going to Aurburn looks like a bust waiting to happen. What do I know though?

All in all, it was a great docu-series.

Yes, it indicated that DJ Law had to continue on with classes so I'm assuming he finished in the Spring/Summer.

1) Hate to say it but you probably see a lot of the same things all over the country, it just isn't televised behind the scenes for the world to see.
2) Yes, they have really nice facilities. Probably have some nice contracts and donations due to the recent National Championship runs
3) Yes; maybe; and yes.
4) I enjoyed the reaction of people behind/around him
5) Yes, it is still done at JUCO and 4yr universities. It really is a lame duck award.
6) I wouldn't want to blanket them all as being illiterate. Are there some that can't read well, etc? Of course. At the same time, it makes for better TV when a they center it around players who struggle.
7) Initially I thought he was a kid who would have jumped at an offer to play anywhere but toward the end he wasn't. I guess that can be editing or whatever you want to call it. Maybe he had some ass in starkville he was anxious to get to. Either way, I understand how difficult that would be to get passed over when the guy who was your back up all year gets an offer to Auburn and you get zilch.
8) I didn't like that kid. Arrogant, immature, you name it. But he's done well at Auburn and I think he is in line for the starting job.

I have no problem with the cussing and yelling at kids but I doubt the majority of coaches are out there are starting fights with sideline refs. Guy was a hot head and a hypocrite.

Not really surprised the one kid we got from EMCC was kicked off our squad for violation of team rules:

Pretty sure Brad Lambert won't be going down that path again.

Looks Like the former Southern Miss OC is pulling a "Buddy Stephens" at JCJC and they meet in the first game of the season...

RE: OT: Netflix's Last Chance U
Since I live in the Hattiesburg area I'm going to try and attend their first game at Jones JC to get a 1st hand look at EMCC. From what I remember last year when reading the newspaper about their season ending brawl I "think" it said that all players from last year's team had a 1 game suspension while there were several with 2 game suspensions. If that held up EMCC will be handicapped that game as there's only 55-60 or so on a roster and you figure half of those were players on last year's team. If that isn't the case I figure it will still be a good outing if noting else.

Was it the GQ article or the one in SI that blew up the MS juco system as a big joke academically and corrupt? I read it a few years ago. It's a shame kids are coming out of those places with a so called "degree.

There are a lot of kids who come out of Ms JuCo's better than they started. Unfortunately a show like this will show had bad it "can" be at times. IMO "some" of the athletes end up worse than the way things are done at some high schools where the kid is simply passed because the coach is also his teacher and the coach/teacher wants the kid to get an opportunity at the next level whether he truly deserves it or not

Small-town Mississippi is its own world. When that part was on, all I could do was laugh, because it reminded me of my high school and my time at JCJC.

I would say MS and LA off the top of my head.

I know that LA doesn't have JUCO football, so the MS JUCOs benefit (on-the-field at least) from that.

Once the protected areas/players rule went away, the gloves came completely off, IMO.

OT: While I'm thinking about it, the shot of the old "Downtown Scooba" in the first episode made me feel like I was watching O' Brother, Where Art Thou for a minute there.

MS JUCO football certainly has a lot of talent in it. Fun football to watch.

They are almost exclusively from MS. The MACJC allows only a handful of out of state athletes ( less than 5 I think).

And about the MS JUCO system being a joke, it depends on where you go. There are several nationally ranked schools in the state, while there are other places that are just a stop between high school and working in an oil field.

I "think" it's closer to the 8-10 range or at least it was from my time at Jones JC. At one point schools near the state line were allowed a few schools in a bordering state within its "district" but since the districts were dissolved those few out of state local schools might have been eliminated too.

I think your right. I HATE that they got rid of districts for recruiting. It was already slanted in favor of places like MGCCC, Northwest and EMCC because those areas of the state already have more talent but now if there is a good player in MDCC's or Coahoma's district, those schools stand zero chance with him and the talent gap becomes wider.

I saw today on Yahoo Sports where there will be a Season 2.

**EDIT** And to top it off EMCC has been ranked #1 to start the season

RE: OT: Netflix's Last Chance U
There are so many things that I find disturbing about this show. I mean I know this goes on across the country, but when you get an inside look I just have a hard time watching it. When we talk about this concept of athletes getting preferential treatment over regular students no where is this made as obvious than with the academic advisor. No regular students are getting the coaching that the football players get from her. And I echo some of the other sentiments stated previously. Perhaps as much as anything is we see the lack of parental involvement in these kids lives growing up. It's an indictment on our society that we still haven't been able to figure out how to break this vicious cycle where poor education begets poor education. It starts much sooner than we see it here in this series. I also can't help but feel for Ollie. I can't imagine what it must have been like to not only lose both your parents at the same time but lose them in the way that he did. I can't imagine the psychological damage. I give him a lot of credit just for holding it together as well as he has.

If I were the President of the university I would have fired the head coach after watching the series. My guess is he had no idea of all the intricacies on the inside. Probably would have promoted the OC. He seems like an ok dude. The head coach is dangerous/reckless. At some point, recognition has to happen that ethics, morals and developing people (not just athletes) is more important than wins and losses. College football has flipped this on its head and is increasingly reciprocating everything that is wrong with our society. It's making it harder for me to enjoy the game.

Lastly, I would offer my own personal story related to a JUCO, but dahbeed would just accuse me of being some bugscuffle (whatever that means) whose the best at everything and knows everything.

I live about an hour from EMCC. I have now heard from a number of people that the head coach saw his behavior on video and was very ashamed. He has vowed to change. Time will tell if this happens or not. And if they are doing season 2, then we will find out real soon.

I agree with your points. AS the $$$ hit college football and basketball has grown, the corruption, cheating, and lack of integrity (in many instances) has grown right along with it.

Why does Netflix have such a hard on for Pablo Escobar? Seems like there are 14 shows about him on there.
