Red Wolves get great news today!
Robert Mondie was granted a 6th year. He was our best interior DL last year but we thought it was 50/50 at best. We also added a JC CB for this year who chose us over Toledo and others. The defense just got stronger.

Not to go all Seminole Indian but, yeah, the defense is the strongest I can remember on paper and the team speed is the best as well. Still takes breaks of course.

I actually don't disagree with Seminole that you guys have the most talent, I usually just disagree with the gap between the next teams being as large as he thinks. You guys clearly have more depth than anyone else.

I'd agree on the depth issue in the Sun Belt you win by either having better than normal luck with injuries or sufficient depth to get past the inevitable injuries. 2011 and 2012 AState teams were abnormally healthy, 2009 and 2013 abnormally injured (always regress to the mean).

Yeah, best DL in the league by far. Depth behind them is a question though. They need to stay healthy.

According to the roster I have seen you are 4-deep at DE and inside( the guys in bold all played last year):

DE's
Ja’Von Rolland‐Jones
Chris Odom
Caleb Caston
Chase Robison
Griggin Riggs

DaJon Emory(JC Transfer)
Jarrod Chandler
TJ Harris(RS)

DL's:
Waylon Robertson
Robert Mondie

Dee Liner(Alabama Transfer)
Jake Swalley
Dovonon Ransom
Darrius Rosser

Javier Carbonell( RS)
Warwick Marsh(JC Transfer)
Clifford Thomas

Not 100% sure but think Thomas is the only player in that bold group that has not started a game, but all have played well, and the newbies ( non-bold) are not slouches.

Harris was a HS All-American that reportedly had multiple P5 offers offers from schools like Arizona State.

Carbonell is a quick, athletic 3-star, and had he not missed his senior year was in line to receive multiple P5 offers, yet still ended up with multiple G5 offers from schools like Northern Ill, ULM, and of course A-State. He has that "hot motor" coaches like, to go along with a 300lb body, and go all out approach to the game. Had a solid spring.

Liner was one of the top DL's in the country coming out of HS, and A-State coaches said he had a very solid spring.

Emory has good size, athleticism and speed and held offers from schools like GaSo, and USM.

Marsh is a surprising quick, athletic 5-10 315lb guy that should make a big impact at NG, and had offers from the likes of Boise, and Southern Mississippi.

Chandler is a fast ( anchored his HS 4x100 rellay team) athletic player who was rated the 16th best player in Arkansas out of HS.

Not a stinker in the bunch IMO, and I would not be concerned with any one being on the field, but that is the case with most of the players on the 2016 roster, because your worse scholarship player at every position is a good player.

Thanks, going by memory and don't have a good one.

I pity the offensive linemen that have to play this bunch. Coaches might have a hard time getting them out of the locker after half time. Might whoop one or two or three but four! Just don't seem like a fair fight. Wait, that's what I've been saying it is not a fair fight.

Toledo(10-2) had 3 transfer starters last season:
QB Phillip Ely(Alabama)
Center Ruben Carter(Florida State)
DB Roland Milligan(Alabama-Birmingham)

Likely 2-4 transfer starters/2 deep this season:
DE Jhonny Williams(Notre Dame)
NG/DT Earl Moore(U of Miami)
LB Jeremi Powell(Florida)
DB Demond Frye(Va Tech)

This one went 8-0 on the league prior to the transfers and didn't play a league game that was closer than double digits.

So....yeah....

Mondie is still not certain for next year. He must pass one class to be eligible in the next few days via correspondence.

RE: Red Wolves get great news today!
Ark St. has a chance to make some noise for the SBC.

Home opener against a good G5 team in Toledo that lost it's starting QB and 75% of it's starting DL. If Ark. St. great DL can contain Toledo's rushing attack they should win this one.

Then they get what some would call a below average Auburn team in a trap game coming off playing Clemson and the week before their first SEC game.

Could be a great start for Ark St.
