Changes in Brick and Mortar Banking
I don't go that often to the bank but the other day I went. I bank at BMO Harris. I went to deposit a check and got someone located at a call center. They walked me through and verified that my deposit was correct but they no longer have tellers at the bank.

Modernization.

The robotization of America. I dread calling companies because of the time and effort it takes me to get a live person (if I even can). When I do get a live person, it's usually someone from Asia with a heavy accent and speaking through a bad connection. They read from a damn script and do sound like robots. Then, after going through an ordeal to address my issue, I get the satisfaction survey in my e-mail. This happens all the time, and I cannot stand this crap.

I, too, bank at BMO Harris with a fee-free account. I have to do all my banking through direct deposit or the ATM. If I have to talk to someone, heaven help me. If I step into the bank and talk to someone, I get charged $2 - every time I do it. Give me the old days, when you could deal directly with a human being and be treated like one.

Those stupid phone lines are terrible, and just as you described. I start hitting numbers like "0" to see if it takes me right to an actual person, instead of jumping through hoops in the automated system.

I still have Chase for banking so they still have tellers. They don't have a change machine anymore though. I used to take my coins there to get them changed into bills.

I also bank at First Midwest. They not only have tellers, but they will also take and count your change. I save all my change for a year and then cash it at the bank before my vacation. I usually save $300 - $400 each year doing that.

There was a time when you could put money in a bank, leave it there for a while, and afterward, you would actually have more money than you originally put in there, even if you adjust for inflation. It was actually a good investment. Those were the days.

Yea, I remember that. You used to get, what was it called? Oh yea, "interest".
