I've been doing some research on this and this is what I understand so far:

It is a one time buy, and you can plug it in to the back of your TV in the HDMI slot. Some of the channels are apparently free of charge and work solely because they are part of the package you get with Roku. It appears that the CAA.tv channel will be a part of that from my quick read of the article. Other channels or packages are either paid for separately (Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc) or require a cable subscription (WatchESPN, History, etc). I have a Chromecast, but I might look to get a Roku given the recent development with the CAA deal.

That being said, I really hope that games on ESPN is still a thing that will happen, and that the new Roku service will be more stable than some of the Stretch portal offerings.

Super underwhelming. Was really hoping for a new ESPN deal so I could cast the games to my TV. JMU games are basically the only thing I can't cast to my TV at this point.

So this is the new deal then? All the "clues" being dropped that made it sound like ESPN was the choice, end up with Roku as the actual choice?

I seriously doubt this is the "TV Deal". The commissioner said he's talking to ESPN and they just haven't signed the contract. I'm expecting an ESPN3 streaming deal and moving away from CSN if I were a betting man.

This is just a new app that can be used through Roku to watch CAA.TV league streaming games.

While it isn't our new deal, I was very surprised Comcast moved our game. When they move the biggest FCS game of the week, to CSN-MA Plus it's pretty obvious we needed this new contract. I would much rather watch our games on a more reliable carrier, even if it is ESPN3.

I am sure I'll figure this Roku out but hopefully the games can still be watched online as well. Otherwise going to lose viewers.

Are you streaming via iPhone or iPad? If you have a smart TV or Apple TV, Chromecast, etc. You should be able to mirror Madizone from your phone or tablet.

Doesn't sounds like this is an exclusive deal. Hopefully they'll get apps out for other platforms/devices soon (Apple, Android, Amazon Fire, etc.).

This just prevents me from having to run an HDMI from my laptop to my TV. Great news!

I have (Chromcast and an iPad... if you download the chromecast browser (not chrome) then it casts to TV much easier, even without the little cast icon

I mean, I have no problem casting the tab from Chrome, but the quality isn't the same. When you do that mirroring it has to stream to your device and then send that to whatever device you have plugged into your TV. Casting done correctly streams it directly to the device, allowing for smoother video and then I can do other things while watching the game (like follow the scores of other games or write on here). It doesn't mean it's not possible other ways, it's just a smoother experience.

I use the TV Cast app, but I'm not sure if it's mirroring or what.

I have Apple TV and airplay it from my phone and the quality is amazing. Better than almost all of my streaming.

Eh, this is just the Stretch internet video stream packaged as a Roku app. That's fine *IF* they fix their capacity issues, though I'd rather have an Apple TV app. Hopefully that is coming soon too.

An ESPN 3 deal is likely the best we can hope for in CAA. Bourne already indicated there isn't going to be anymore traditional "linear" TV coverage.

jmufan2008 - How do you stream Madizone from your phone? I can stream it from my computer but since its old, the picture is choppy on my screen (my husband says its because the graphics card isn't powerful enough for our 60 inch TV).

The only way I seem to be able to stream things from my phone to my TV is if the Chromecast app works with them (i.e. ESPN, Youtube, Netflix, etc). Would love to be able to stream madizone from my phone to my TV if possible.

I always do my laptop with Chrome and cast the tab with the game playing. Not as good as casting from a normal app (WatchESPN, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) on my phone where it's just in the background and not taxing the laptop or phone, but works well enough.

If I were to guess, we're going to have a league ESPN3 streaming of all league FB and BB games. This likely means no more games on Comcast sportsnet or NBCSN though, which I'm personally fine with at this point.
When they failed to put the CAA on any nbcsn broadcasts this season in favor of EPL soccer coverage, I was officially over NBC's coverage. They lag behind all their competitors to the point where it's pathetic.

I hope we remain on CSN. I know some that still only have traditional TV and aren't JMU fans but will watch a game if they see it on on a Saturday. We've been on CSN for quite a while and I don't see how else they could fill all their airtime in the fall.

I would like to see this also, because it improves the chances of catching games when you are at a bar or restaurant setting. Most of them don't have Roku/streaming but do have all the sports channels available.

JB in his Knight Commission talk said there won't be any future "linear" programming on TV for CAA, which to me meant ESPN3 or other streaming services only. Reality is the CAA is third tier football content, and the loss of VCU/GMU/ODU diminished the attractiveness of our basketball content also. I just don't think the CAA brand draws well enough to cut mainstream TV deals now.

That's what I do and thought that was a freaking triumphant breakthrough for me.

Is this device similar in what it (the apple tv)does, how it's set up and how it works, only without the phone? Are the games still going to be available through Madizone if needed (no TV)?

If I go buy one of these "Sticks" and they sign a deal with ESPN3 or whatever, is this just going to be redundant? Or the ROKU would then be out of the CAA deal?
