Well done movie. They are really doing a good job with this series.

I disagree. The whole Spock/Uhura angle totally kills this reboot for me. The actors had the original characters down pat...and they had to ruin it with that.

Agree. This rebooted series has been fun so far.

nah, read a Takei interview somewhere. Said Roddenbury wouldn't have liked it.

Saw this over the weekend. Very good. Like was said earlier, this series is very well done.

On a side note, the previews that they showed before the movie were absolute garbage. Freakin terrible. Hollywood really has gotten lazy. It's pathetic.

When they finally lowered the lights, I looked to my wife and said that had to be the worst collection of trailers I had ever seen.

Hollywood is currently succeeding with the huge budget event films and the tiny budget indie films. Where they suck is the middle ground that is supposed to fill theater seats between the blockbuster releases and awards season.

One exception to this rule from this summer was The Shallows. I would describe it as Gravity meets Jaws. It was surprisingly engaging.

Best Trek movie since First Contact. I don't mind the new take/time line with the series but they have done two things terribly wrong with this current franchise:

1. Totally pooched the Wrath of Khan storyline.
2. Totally pooched the marketing for Beyond.

Haven't seen it, but Blake Lively is stunning.

Effin' lucky arse Ryan Reynolds.

I think the real issue is that Star Trek Into Darkness lost much of the momentum for the non-Trekker casual fans that Star Trek got.

Twenty years ago, Star Trek: First Contact grossed $90 million domestically and it was considered a hit for the franchise. It did little overseas.

Star Trek 1-4 and Star Trek 6 were hits for their times, but only Star Trek 4 grossed over $100 million. Star Trek movies weren't crossover blockbusters for the most part until the 2009 Star Trek movie.

RE: Star Trek Beyond
Count me as an enormous fan of the current movies. My brother is really into Trek. He loves the original movies and all the series. Me? I just watched them with him growing up. I can appreciate them, but they're not my cup of tea. However, I love the new ones. They could use a little more science in lieu of some of the action, but they're great entertaining movies. Also, the wife, who never ever wants to see a movie in theaters, wanted to go with me to see Beyond. Crossover indeed.

RE: Star Trek Beyond
The box office numbers are troubling for Beyond and the future of the franchise. This will have to make a ton of money overseas for the studio to turn a profit. They need to hit 4 out of the park to ensure these movies keep getting made.

I saw that. Don't think they needed to spend 185 million on it and then screw up the marketing. They said there's going to be a 4th, so I don't know.

RE: Star Trek Beyond
The real question is why the hell does this movie cost $185 million?

Zoe Saldana is the only one with another franchise. Karl Urban is probably the next biggest star. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto aren't blowing the world up in other things. Chris Pine's attempts haven't gone well.

Beyond will do $150 million domestically. But it's good and will bring in tons in digital streaming, bluray sales, and merchandise.

Paramount will go with the franchise because it is so important to them even if it doesn't make as much as they'd like.

Paramount made a sequel to Jack Reacher. It was good, but didn't bring in a ton of money.
