RIP Senator Robert Morgan
Yesterday Senator Robert Morgan passed away. He was a former NC State Senator, Attorney General, US Senator and SBI director. He graduated from East Carolina Teacher's College and was a lifetime supporter of East Carolina University. He was along with Leo Jenkins the driving force in getting a medical school at ECU.

Quote:The Morgans remained passionate Pirates, advocating on behalf of East Carolina University in the old eastern North Carolina tobacco town. Mr. Morgan served as president of the college's alumni association from 1958 to '59, as first president of the precursor to the Pirate Club and as chair of the Board of Trustees for nine terms." (Fayetteville Observer)

He was a champion of his alma mater, ECU, leading a fight against the University of North Carolina administration and most of the major newspapers to create a medical school that would serve the east. He served nine terms as chairman of the ECU board of trustees.

“If you took East Carolina University — and especially the medical school — out of the east we would look like a developing nation,” Morgan said in 2008.
