Did some digging to make sure, and yep .... Shon's the best current FCS recruit in the country.

I believe you, Paul. And let me tell ya, when we talked about William and Mary a few months ago, he was in love with the program and the coaches. Raved about them. After talking to him, I went and did a 247Sports "pick" to W&M straight up. I could tell the Tribe would land him. And I wasn't the only one to pick it.

PS -- My sis is a W&M grad. I was at her grad in 2004 when Jon Stewart gave the famous grad speech. Love that place.

Very cool to see the outlawed W&M with feathers logo posted prominently!

Thanks for the props!

Love how quiet his feet are. Not a lot of wasted movement, confident with strong arm. With the receivers we have and the QB'S we for the future, it could be very fun to watch.

I love watching his highlights. You can tell that he's a smart guy just from his decision making in the pocket. But my favorite thing is that he has a knack for leading his targets out of coverage.

My daughter graduated from Oscar Smith and I can tell you that football is all business at that school. They are the top 2 or 3 best programs in the state every year. I watched the kid on TV last year when Oscar Smith played in the 6A championship game and remember thinking that he reminded me a bit of a high school version of Russell Wilson.

I live about 7 minutes from the school. Think that I will catch a game this fall.

He will start as a true freshman. When you watch him throw it's clear that he has the arm to throw deep and has a great touch on short routes and over defenders. He also doesn't run just to run. There are some plays on his HUDL where he sees openings early and takes off (for the end zone) and others where he needs to get out of the pocket as the play is developing.

RE: William & Mary lands top FCS commitment in the nation
You know that W&M has hit it big locally when tonight on the six o'clock news his commitment to W&M is covered on the major Tidewater station (channel10-NBC) and the sports announcer says "William and Mary has stunned local and state football with the commitment of Mitchell, the state's outstanding quarterback,
choosing the Tribe and Jimmye Laycock over several major programs."

Coming on the heels of South Carolina's Christian transfer to W&M., this is a remarkable, remarkable,
time for Tribe football. This young man, Mitchell is the real deal--a huge prospect. I agree with those who
believe he is the guy directly succeeding Cluley.

Coach Rogers must be drooling!

Did Dean Rotger just become a slot receiver?

Receiver position is pretty full too, no guarantee there, especially with the talent at WR. I'd say he should use this year to get good and compete. Battle isn't just going to rollover either. Should be a great competition next fall. McKee will compete too.

Let's get this Mitchell kid signed and on campus before we start giving him the stating position. I love his film too, but I remember another kid last year that was a verbal, ended up signing somewhere else.

Let's stay on him, show him some love. Have a great offense this fall. Show him that he'll come in with Dedmon, Kuzjak, Christian, and Armstrong to throw to and close the deal this February.

He apparently can enroll in January, 2017, and this cuts down the time for other schools to poach.

An extra spring practice and a chance to get a start on classes would be huge.

We'll know if he signs or starts as a TF down the road, obviously. What this does for us NOW is peak the interest of '17 recruits. Some of them have to think that playing with Shon (and Christian) for 4-5 years would be good times.

I love everything about Shon...hope he's in a Tribe uniform in 9 months.

He has a 4.3 GPA so he probably has the ability to graduate early if he wants to do so.

From the VP article above, a nice quote to ease those concerns a bit:
“I didn’t want to play this season with this decision in the back of my mind,” Mitchell said. “I didn’t want that pressure. That would take away from my teammates and would put more pressure on me.”

I don't doubt this young man's decision. Everything I have read about him gives me great confidence that he will become a member of the Tribe and have the opportunity to have a great career. Saying the right things shows maturity. So far so good.

Sometimes (me included) we can get carried away with the potential of some of our recruits. There are so many intangibles that contribute to the success of our players that can't be foreseen.

I'm going to root for Mitchell to have an awesome senior year, injury free. When he gets on campus and starts competing the fun really starts.
