Marshall schedules Gamecocks for 2018
Marshall has scheduled a game with SC in Columbia for Sept. 2018. 1.4 mil to be the payout. I'll take it! 04-rock

I think the majority of Marshall fans do not want a consistent, pay-for-play approach to our OOC scheduling. However, this game 1) fits perfectly into our 2018 schedule, 2) is against one of the more beatable teams in the SEC, 3) is scheduled to occur 20 years after we beat South Carolina in Columbia, and 4) gets us a program-record $1.4m payout.

Hard to argue against all that. On the other hand, if we had another pay-for-play game scheduled to fill in the last gap for 2018, I think that would be a bit much, as the schedule already has 2 P5 programs on it:

2018: 09/01 - at Miami (OH); 09/15: at South Carolina; 09/22 - NC State; 1 MORE TBD

Unfortunately, the marketability of our current conference make-up is requiring us to do things we don't want to. As I said in the other thread about scheduling, I don't mind a buy game once every few years, especially in years we have a P5 scheduled at home.

My guess you have one every year now, welcome to CUSA and G5! Its not a bad thing and has been used a great recruiting tool for us, players and kids nowadays want to compete against the best and play in that type of atmosphere...Its a win win for all involved...And as we saw with your weak schedule 2 seasons ago, even if you go 12-0 against a schedule like that you are not getting into access bowl...

That is a very good move by Marshall, but the payout is disturbing. The gap grows ever larger.

$1.4Mil for a buy game. Seven times what Marshall will get for TV. Insane.

Well, that was flyhawk that said it. Obviously, the new tv contract is making everyone reassess what they are doing and I believe most Marshall fans acknowledged that.

Our AD had gone on record saying he wouldn't do a one and done because that would impede his negotiations with other schools for home and homes. That was before this abysmal tv contract was finalized though. I'd be willing to bet if Marshall had control of its own tv rights it could get more than 200k for the Louisville game alone. But that's all we get since its split even with everyone, regardless of value contributed to the contract.

Also, I will never understand how calling Marshall Marcia is an insult. She was the most popular one who was good at everything and all the others were jealous of her... Its pretty similar to our situation in CUSA but not an insult.

The players want to play games like that. I think that one reason WKU has landed some recruits. We continue to schedule strong out of conference

RE: Marshall schedules Gamecocks for 2018
Yes, this is unusual for us, but even with this one buy game, we will have a 6 game home schedule every year through 2022 and already have another P5 team (NC State) coming to Huntington in 2018, so that was an opportunity to do a buy game.

Here is Marshall's OOC schedule through 2022. We have 2 home games and 3 roads games left to fill over that time. I think Marshall could fit one more money game in 2019 or 2022, and then still have 2 home-and-home dealss to fill. (though I think 2018 probably gets filled with an FCS, which means we could have buy games for both 19 and 22, and one remaining home-and-home to sign for the next 7 years.

2017: MIAMI (OH), KENT STATE, at NC State, at Cincinnati
2018: NC STATE, (home TBD), at Miami (OH), at South Carolina
2019: CINCINNATI, OHIO, at Boise, (road TBD)
2020: PITT, BOISE, at ECU, at Ohio
2021: ECU, (home TBD), at Navy, at App State
2022: NAVY, APP STATE, (road TBD), (road TBD)

I didn't call you Marsha, but since you take it as a compliment, tell me, how many championships did Marcia-good-at-everything win last year?

What makes you think ESPN picked before cbs? Even if they did I still bet that game is worth more than 200k...
