Wasn't ODU a 1 for 2? Might be misremembering that.

I don't know, but that's the kind of insight I was hoping for discussion purposes. Thanks.

We need to ramp up the schedule. Follow the baseball team model and go on the road and play at least 2 power conference teams on the road. If it has to be a heavy road schedule so be it. It will help prepare for the CAA schedule which is where the teams success will be judged.

AGREED

Offer to play some teams who have been very good the past couple of seasons and maybe will be down next year on the road 2 in exchange for a home game in 21-22.

Would Wake be a candidate? Also, why not Away-Home-Away? Getting the P5 and/or BE to JMU the season it opens.

RE: Future MBB Schedule
I like the idea of the 2 for 1 w/ P5 teams (or Big East). We have got to work on to being able to schedule true home and homes with ODU, VCU etc though. No more 2 for 1s with them. Gonna take some better rating strength on our part though (and better attendance would probably boost the optics of the matchup).

ODU ... will host James Madison Nov. 20 ... ODU will pay the Dukes $75,000 for the game, the first of a two-for-one series.

https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/o...b70a8.html

Means ODU will play at JMU in the first season in the new arena.

That is Good News. It is a no brainer to play ODU every year.
One request - please allow the Dukes to score more than 11 points in the first half this year. That was the most miserable half of offense I’ve ever seen the Dukes have. I ended up drinking more beers at that game than I ever have at a basketball game because it was so hard to watch. :drunk:

Means ODU would at least be in the conversation for being the opening game at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. I guess that would be OK but I'd hope for a bigger show but then again we don't need to bring UVA to town and get smoked for the first game.

Looks like #JMU will play ODU in Norfolk again in 2019-20 season. JMU has been trying to set up the schedule to have plenty of intriguing home games when Atlantic Union Bank Center opens the season after.

Shane stating that JMU is purposely setting up their 2019 schedule so that the 2020 schedule will have HQ home games in the new arena.

I'm ok with doing anything to improve our OOC for now, esp. to benefit a home schedule for the opening of the new arena. That said, if we have a couple of strong years in a row ( in our great new arena), we have to demand home & home series with schools like VCU and ODU. They are not P5s.

It would be nice to get a couple marquee opponents on the home schedule to open the new arena. I still remember seeing the Fab Five coming in with all that hype as freshmen and opening up the new arena at Cleveland State back in 1991.

2 fer 1?

We are not equal level in basketball?

But we have a 1 fer 1 with Norfolk State in football?

Nutz, PG? Make sense?

Appears to be more about money and also an assurance that they play at Jmu in the year we want them to. Last year I think Syracuse paid Odu something comparable to what Odu will pay us. I guess Jmu values the money. I just hope it isn’t in lieu of another payday or two from Power schools. I’ll feel a lot better about it if this year Jmu is double or tripling up and Odu is just more revenue for the program to go with some other pay days maybe even a 2 for 1 with a lesser Power program and it is more about stacking the home slate for next season. Odu better be our 3rd or 4th best OOC opponent at home next year. If they are our 1st or 2nd best that will be extremely disappointing.

Regarding the bold: saying next year, you do mean the 20 - 21 season, am I right? Not this upcoming season?

Big difference, the basketball coaches make the schedule for their team whereas Jeff Bourne's office makes the football schedule. 03-banghead

Yeah - All lining up for 20-21 when the new arena opens- if we play some decent opponents on the road this year it’s more palatable if we know that 20-21 with the new arena will be a home heavy OOC schedule with multiple good opponents. Imo Odu can not be a headliner at himenin 20-21. Headliner needs to be Va Tech, Vcu, Uva or some well known regional Power school. Odu Mason maybe Richmond are great games to have in the schedule but we need more.

Agree, however when we opened the Convo, it was with VMI, people barely knew then and few remember today. It was the second game that brought everyone out and had a lottery for tickets, UVA.
