RE: Should the A-Sun look to expand?
You hit the nail on the head. We must have strong OOC wins as well as strong OOC scheduling. It’s the only way. Adding 3 more games against teams ranked 200-350 does nothing.

Strong OOC scheduling combined with some wins is the only remedy.

That being said, I am very happy about the new additions to the ASUN.

Let's not get ahead, it's not a done deal yet, anything can happen.

As an outsider, I’m bullish on the Atlantic Sun.

1) High profile NCAA wins and recognizable names.
2) Schools actually considering leaving their current conferences for this conference is a good sign for something (or perhaps a bad sign for the OVC and Southland).

That's good sentiment

Quote:If the Atlantic Sun Conference wants to talk to Jacksonville State about joining the league, then athletics director Greg Seitz is willing to listen.

But, that’s a long way from Jacksonville State deciding to abandon the Ohio Valley Conference for the ASUN.

Jeff Goodman, basketball analyst at The Stadium, posted on Twitter, “Can confirm that ASUN likely to add Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and Jacksonville State for the 2021-22 season.”

Kendall Rogers posted on Twitter that ASUN presidents have voted to enter into a 60-day negotiating period with JSU, Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas.

Seitz said that JSU would listen to a pitch but is pleased with being members of the OVC.

May not be a done deal after all.

What else would he say before its official?

The news was that the president's are in a 60 day negotiation... not the ADs

For EKU, if anything is going on with this then I would think it would be an agenda item for the Dec 10 BOR meeting.

What are the chances EKU goes without JSU?

Probably slim to none...

Who knows. Not sure what the pitch is or the administration's thinking. The administration is all new.

So... I guess we can go back to hoping for MEAC leftovers and D2 call ups.

I refer back to my original “more realistic” expansion list. However, even now, I think Howard would be a stretch. They probably would have better options.

ASUN . . . . . . . . . . . Big South (Football)
Howard . . . . . . . . . . Howard
Bellarmine . . . . . . . . Hampton
Lipscomb . . . . . . . . . N.C. A&T
Liberty . . . . . . . . . . . Robert Morris
Norfolk St. . . . . . . . . Norfolk St.
North Alabama . . . . . North Alabama
UA-Huntsville . . . . . . Monmouth
North Georgia . . . . . . Charleston So.
Kennesaw St. . . . . . . Kennesaw St
NCCU . . . . . . . . . . . . NCCU
West Florida . . . . . . . West Florida
North Florida . . . . . . . Campbell
Jacksonville . . . . . . . . Gardner Webb
Stetson
FGCU
Nova Southeastern

And of course there are the other board favorites- West Georgia, Valdosta St.,UNC Pembroke, and S.C. State.

If what was announced dont happen, I would assume just invite West Florida, be at 10 and be done.

I feel like what leaked was a trial balloon by Jacksonville State to get a feel for the reaction of their fans/supporters/etc. Not sure their response but if it were positive then they wouldn't be so again it publicly. Most often public comments are neutral like "We will neither confirm nor deny we are talking to other conferences. We are happy members of ABC conference and are fully committed to making it the best home for us and the rest of the conference. We will listen to offers if approached because we need to do what's best for the school but we are happy in our current situation."

Rumor from a poster on our board is that discussions are ongoing.

95% of the JSU fans and alum I know (which is a good bit) wants it to happen.

Yep, looking at message boards, it seems like fans of the suggested schools are on board or excited about an ASUN move. If only it were so.
