I like it. C. Ark seems kinda weird. They don’t fit the geo footprint as well. But I dig it. Hope the remaining four are southeastern states..... if they come.

They ain't too far...

Chattanooga, Charleston Southern, West Florida, Valdosta State...

There must be another shoe to drop. Central Arkansas is such a question mark. They aren't nearby, they aren't good at basketball, all they do is provide a football team. There must be another one or two additions lined up and either Central Arkansas is a bridge to them or were required to land one or both of those.

Well, the 3 puts us at 12... so I imagine it stays for the short term. If we go to 16, there are a ton of possibilities, but who knows how it will shake out.

They may be a bridge for a couple of Louisiana schools? Who knows?

I still think its hilarious that no D1 school would leave their current conference to join the lowest of low ASUN.... lol

I’m hoping the next four are Chattanooga, Western Carolina, Charleston Southern, West Florida.

I’d be good with Tennessee Tech too. But wondering if we’re gonna pick up some more teams closer to Arkansas.

I am hoping the next four are announced soon, as to get everyone on board for the 2021 season.

I think any of us who have thought this are happy to be wrong!

But to be fair, when our four most recent additions prior to this were 2 D2 schools, a D1 school that left after two seasons, & a new FBS school in dire need of a new conference for full membership, it makes sense why that would be the assumption. Add to it the seemingly failed UCA announcement & a lack of OOC success in basketball, & you wind up with seemingly fair criticisms like that.

Is this actually permanent change? I’ve seen rumors it’s just for one year... I’m confused.

Well with the pandemic situation. It is possible that those schools want to continue some athletic effort while the conference office is not in the same page. Also it said they were likely to come, so we don't know if this will actuallybcome to fruition or if they will be permanent. I'm not going to assume when there is no official statement (unless I've missed something). We saw what happen with the conference realignment attempt that didnt have a strong foundation to start with. Just saying....

The problem with before was NJIT leaving, it shut down the split.
But that may have been a blessing, instead of splitting, they will just be 1 conference.

If this happens, the ASUN will sit at 12. Still not viable for the ASUN to sponsor football, but it will make the Big South (football) very strong with 12(and not sure this will not push Monmouth and RMU out for 10)

But I also believe, with who is involved, that the conference is looking at no less than 14 members and have FCS football. (The only way the ASUN can have FBS is buy the FBS rights from the WAC, the NCAA will not allow a new FBS conference) but probably looking more to 16 schools to break into 2, 8 team divisions for all sports.

RE: Should the A-Sun look to expand?
I think all the ASun's cooperation with other conferences and willingness to split in 2 creates hope for the eastern CUSA schools that dream of creating a new Atlantic Coast FBS football league.

This conference, along with the remaining CUSA West schools raids the Sun Belt.

The Sun Belt then backfills with UCA, Jacksonville State and EKU.

This is probably impossible to do, I understand. It's just refreshing to see what vision and leadership can do for a conference. I thought the addition of Bellarmine playing in Freedom Hall was a no-brainer.

I understand...

But maybe this is a way to bring a nationally competitive FCS conference together in the south.

All the better Southern FCS schools are spread out over 4 or 5 conferences. They dont get respect from the playoff voters like the MVFC or Big Sky does.

With the ASUN, they can put together an extremely strong FCS conference that would get several playoff spots and have a shot at multiple basketball bids.

We've been on the cusp of getting 2 in the past 2 seasons... just sayin. More conference games may help.

The reason for being on the cusp with multiple bids is because of OOC strength by one or more teams in the last two years. However, because of how good a number of teams all over the country were in '18-'19, Lipscomb didn't get in that season, & last year we would have only had a shot at multiple bids if Liberty had lost in the ASUN Championship, & that was questionable.

Ultimately we need more OOC strength in this conference. These teams may bring that, but unless they do or the conference as a whole starts winning more OOC, the number of conference games will not move the needle for us to get multiple bids.
