"The chairman of global construction equipment giant JCB has urged the business community to "look to the future" after the vote to quit the EU.

Lord Bamford, whose father founded JCB in 1945, said in a statement:

The UK is the world's fifth largest trading nation. We therefore have little to fear from leaving the EU. European markets are important to many UK businesses, including JCB, and this will not change."
JCB employs around 5,500 UK workers at 11 factories in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Wrexham, and operates other plants in North America, India, China and Brazil.

Lord Bamford, who took over as chairman of the family-owned firm more than 40 years ago, said of the poll result: "As a consequence of this momentous decision, we should look ahead to opportunities to trade more freely with the rest of the world, as well as building on existing trading relationships with customers and suppliers in Europe."

But, I know the Brits will find a welcoming place in the Commonwealth, both for their products and their people.

It seems obvious we got our stubbornness and sense of freedom from Dad after all.

The EU won't move one inch to help them leave. And why should they? The Ukippers just gave them a recession.

But they are going to let them go. The EU has already asked for the Article 50 paperwork and have said they want it soon.

I had a foreign exchange student from Holland a few years ago. When he went back, he got an appointment as a legislative assistant to the EU parliament. He was the typical idealistic Eurokid. He kept in touch because he had a girlfriend here and wanted me to help him get back into grad school here to be close to her. Anyway, six months after he went back, I was in Amsterdam (for a National Review cruise, BTW, wonderful experience). He invited me to come down to Brussels and he would show me around the EU parliament. I did, and found that six months of watching the sausage being made had turned him into a complete cynic/skeptic. He thought the whole thing was pretty much a farce.
