They're offering several guys on each team, at big time football programs. The staff offered 3 guys at Chicago Marist, 3 guys at St. Xavier in Cincinnati, several guys at Cass Tech.

And almost every guy they've offered so far also has multiple P5 offers. They're not afraid to compete with the big dogs for recruits, which is great. Seems like the commitment to high-level recruiting has carried over. Now let's see if we can land some of these guys...

This is great to see. We WERE the #15 team in the country at the end of last season. It's ok to act like it.

I completely agree. If you don't set your goals high, what's the point. As others have said though. Got to land some of them.

I like to see this staff going after the big gets... really focusing on a need (looks like they are focusing on defensive backfield) and not being afraid to go head to head with the big dogs!

While it's good to see them having a junior day, a lot of these guys haven't been offered. I would be more excited to see some 2018 recruits visiting us that we have offered. It would mean they have some interest. Maybe that's coming, but I'm not sure there is one name here that has a WMU offer.

Why would any of these kids waste their weekend coming to WMU if they didn't have an offer or at least some interest in WMU????

These guys obviously have interest, but not one listed here has a WMU offer yet. At least I don't think so.

I probably didn't explain well.

I'm talking about the group of guys we have already offered in 2018. They are nowhere to be seen on this list. I was saying it would be nice to see some of those guys coming to campus to show the interest in WMU that WMU has shown in them. It is common practice to get guys that you have offered to the campus for junior days, or visits.

We may have some coming. I admit that. Just don't see them on that list.

His tape looks really great! Heard he really was a star against Birch Run. Great way to start the class.

Hope Ben works his butt off and gets some star recognition! Right now zero stars on any site. Fleck certainly has me spoiled.

Just watched VanSumeren's tape. Big, athletic kid and he likes contact. Good speed. I could see him at TE. His HS plays garbage competition though.

just posted this on another thread but very pertinent to the upcoming class. An inside look at Lester's approach to the upcoming recruiting class. and the amount of ground that he needs to make up to catch up to established programs to land 2018 'cruits. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/2...l#comments

I investigated a short list of WMU offers seen on MLive. I'm sure these are all upstanding high school athletes. However, I'm seriously concerned about the ability levels in comparison to the last several classes. Time will tell.

Actually, I think it's the contrary.

You can browse the current offer list here:

https://westernmichigan.rivals.com/offers/football/2018

Most of the guys on there have impressive offer lists, including P5 offers. Right now it seems the staff is going head to head with the power conferences for recruits.

Of course, we also need to LAND some of those guys. As you said, time will tell...

Hope you're right! On your Rivals list, I say we have no shot at any player that's ranked or being recruited by Minnesota. No star players are our best hope.

Pfft, that's the wrong attitude. If you want to be the best, you have to compete with the best. Don't count this staff out yet. You will never get any highly-ranked recruits if you don't even pursue them.

I'm not concerned about the ability level of the guys that Western has offered. As Colin pointed out, Lester and staff seem to be offering guys that a lot of P5's are after. And they should. They didn't get hired to settle.

My concern, and I've probably been among the more vocal here, is that they will have trouble landing the type of talent we were getting.

Proof will be in the pudding. But starting the class with a kid that had no other offers isn't encouraging.

Doesn't mean the kid can't play. Obviously this staff thinks he can and we won't know for about 3 years.

How many other offers did Corey Davis have?

Reality is, when the P5 schools offer as well as Western we're going to lose to them 99% of the time.

Lester, like Fleck, is going to need to find the Diamonds in the Rough. That's the only way we'll get top quality athletes. Because if the P5 know about them and know they have talent, it's already too late.
