Uh.... Have you NOT been following the events at UL the past few years?

Hookers.
Recruiting scandals.
Head Coaches caught in compromising positions.

The s*** looks like it has hit the fan and is being sprayed all over the place.

Not to mention, so much for the "Personal and Confidential" nature of the letter...

RE: Louisville president ousted, board of trustees removed
I know that many of us here like to think that everything that happens at every university is 100% driven by football and/or men's basketball, but it looks like there's a lot more than just basketball going on here...

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/new.../86004032/

Quote:Bevin said his action is motivated by academic concerns, not athletics.

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/new.../86032090/

Quote:Did Bevin discuss this with men's basketball coach Rick Pitino?

Bevin said, "My focus is on the academic side – the education, workforce development. The athletic side has not driven my concerns. I have not spoken to him."

This is outstanding news!

The Board of Trustees at UofL had too many UK connected good ol' boys. Ramsey himself had UK connections. Lots of pissed off folks in Frankfort and Lexington today.

Er, what makes you think the Governor cares about whether UofL Board members have UK ties? What makes you think the new Board members won't?

This seems much more about fiscal mismanagement and academic failings - and yes, the recent athletic embarrassments as well - than any desire by a Governor to put more UofL graduates on the UofL board.

The only members of the board that he kept have Louisville connections. All Louisville graduates....
He removed only UK grads (or Louisville Liberal Democrats that didn't attend either university)

Sorry to disappoint

This needed to be done irregardless of what happened with the basketball program. It helps that aspect as well.

He is pretty much on point about this. The recent scandals themselves were not the issues, as they were mostly unconnected. The problem was, it exposed a LOT of moles and leaks, stemming directly from the board, and in combination with those who willfully leaked info to media to further their own agenda's, combined with them working against the wishes of the President, exposed that many of the board members did not have the university's best interests in mind. When he speaks of the UK ties, what he is referring to is several board members were beginning to act like UAB board members, who seemingly went out of their way to keep that University from progressing.

That is why the governor issued an executive order to just remove ALL of them.

You do get that Baylor is a Private, Baptist school and the Governor has no buy in on the Board of Governors, right?

Now the Southern Baptist Convention might have something to say on the matter, but even there I don't think they have ecclesial authority to do much.
