2018 Basketball Recruiting
Looks like the Chicago big man is a 2018 priority.

"William & Mary was in the gym to see 6'10 PF Isa Maguire this morning @mag_mile_"

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
Boy, those two would form a great base for the Class of '18.

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
From HoopSeen:

'BRANDON YOUNGER, SF/PG, MT. PISGAH, 2018: A guy with plenty of upside to him, Younger brings a versatile skillset to the floor. He enjoys having the ball in his hands and can get his shot off with ease. He enjoys breaking his man down from off the bounce and can defend various spots on the floor. While he has yet to fill out totally, Younger has a bevy of versatility to him and on either end of the floor, making him worthy of attention moving forward. - Carter Wilson'

-and-

'I like what Brandon Younger can become in time. The class of 2018 guard has great length and skill for a youngster. The 6-foot-6 prospect can play three positions and is still a good ways away from what he can become. Younger has a very high ceiling for a prospect. I’m looking forward to seeing him more. '

And didn't WM already offer Xavier Johnson? Twitter says so though Verbal Commits doesn't list Johnson or Younger as recruits yet.

Add 6'8" PF Derek Sabin out of Slinger , WI, to the interest list. AAU teammate of Grant Basile.

If he's out of Wheeler, now (rather than Mt. Pisgah), he's getting some good training.

Jaylen Brown, Dequan Jones, JJ Hickson, Jemareo Davidson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, etc., all went there.

We appear to be after everyone! With six slots to fill we have to be.

Wonder is we'll get any early commitments this class or if it will, again, go down to late spring, early summer of next year. With six to fill that would really be hectic and nerve-wracking.

Coaches are doing the usual strategy of casting a wide net early. Get your foot in the door, interact, and show interest. The net gets tighter as interest is gauged. A good indicator of interest is unofficial visits. It takes effort/resources from the recruit. Many of our commits started as unofficial visits.

I can't imagine a scenario where filling 6 slots with quality recruits would not be hectic and nerve-wracking, with or without early commitments.

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
Is there anything to suggest that at this early date we are shooting for the stars by going for 3-4 recruits, maybe 3-stars, who know each other from AAU, etc. and might want to commit en masse?

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
The six slots will probably be filled by a combination of red shirting, transfers, and recruited freshmen. I can't remember a class that large.

Isa Maguire I think is the only player so far to make an unofficial visit and then the WM coaches went to see him. Hope there is a match.

Another Chicago native made an unofficial a couple years ago- Justin Pierce. It's no sure thing, but a good indicator of interest.

There is no indication of any package deals to my knowledge. Just coaches working their regions and coaching contacts for players fitting the "Tribe mold".
Holmes = Midwest (IN, IL, KY, TN)
Kimble = East (DMV, NY, NC)
Young Shaver = South (FL, GA)

Does this happen often?

No. There is the occasional 2 kids that play together from aau or that are friends from camps that commit to a major program. Not happening here though IMO.

RE: 2018 Basketball Recruiting
The 6 scholarships does open the door for targeting redshirt candidates. Most of the time we're looking for recruits to fill a particular spot and try to contribute immediately; this gives us the leeway to look for guys that are more upside than ready.
