No chance he comes to ODU. Already has offers from UVA, VT, OK ST and VCU.

Why do people waste time posting about offers to superstar prospects like this? Offers don't mean anything unless the player is in the realm of possibility.

RE: 2018 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
He's a 2-star recruit at this point, not a superstar. Room to grow and get better? Yes, but the gambit here is to get in on the ground floor with him and see what happens. Huiett, for example, said one of the reasons he came to ODU was because they'd recruited him for 3 years.

I've asked this question before and no one seems to know: Do you offer a kid a scholarship knowing he has no interest in hearing about ODU, or do you have some indication (from the kid, a coach, family member) that he is open to being recruited by ODU? I would have to think the latter.

I just like recruiting posts that are relevant and not day dreams.

And how would one determine that? If a kid has received an offer from UVA or VT, he shouldn't be listed? If he's a 3* or 4* we should forget about him? I'm Confused.

Basically yes. If a kid is being recruited by P5's, it's probably best to keep any offers as quiet as possible. One reason is simply one of perception. Our fans (self included) , get sick of hearing about our failures. It's bad publicity and doesn't serve the program well. Jump you know good and well we're never going to land a 6'11 kid who is already drawing interest from ACC schools. Why even talk about it? I'd prefer to hear about kids we have an actual shot at. You don't see Wilder offering pipe dreams and that helps keep fans expectations realistic. Some of our fans actually think we might land one of these kids and are disappointed when we don't. One of Jones' problems is he makes a million stupid offers and thus begins to look like a loser.

There are recruiting sites for just that if all you want is raw data. It'll never stay directly on topic on a public forum.

Wilder offers kids with high P5 offers all the time, including high 3 and 4 stars....maybe even 5 stars. Completely off base and uninformed. We sign a small fraction of the number or offers we put out.

Well, it isn't Jeff announcing they've offered so and so. 9x out of 10 it's the kid tweeting it out or a recruiting reporter getting the info at an AAU tournament or through the HS coach or family or kid himself. Verbal Commits always has that thing to the left side of the page "blessed to have received an offer from ODU." I'm not sure there's anything you can do about that.

\True, not sure if anything can be done, except learn the hard way like BT, stop offering no chance kids and concentrate more time and energy on finding below the radar kids who you can develop. Looks like this is Wilders strategy as well. Of course with continued success your recruit options improve.

I think you are wrong on this one ODU. First, I don't think anyone but us is really paying attention. Second, I don't think it is bad to have our name listed along side ACC schools when you look at who is recruiting a kid. Third, even though I feel about the same as you do concerning the likelihood of us signing one of these kids, the truth is that you can't sign them if you don't recruit them, so sometimes you have to throw your name in the hat.

O K, I'm not married to my position. You may well be right. I guess in my mind I would like to know how much time staff spends on the "least likely to sign" recruits. If it's simply a matter of stopping by to pay a visit then make an offer, then sure, why not. If chasing no chancers means it takes recruiting time away from more obtainable recruits, then it's not a great idea.

You have to remember in this age of the transfer putting your name in the hat for kids unattainable today may open the door to getting then if things don't work out for them at the school they choose. Plus it is like when you were single and hanging out in bars at night. If you knocked on enough doors eventually someone would answer.

I don't know what their game plan is for recruiting freshman bigs that are being recruited by several top schools such as the one being discussed here. I don't fault them for throwing their name in the hat with these kids. I just wish their back-up plans in recruiting other freshman bigs were more successful for when the kids like this one decide to go elsewhere. Seems like their methodology is to go big and be willing to come up empty if they don't succeed. To come up empty every year in this area is not good, and leaves ODU at the mercy of what the end of season transfer list will contain and who might be persuaded to come to ODU off that list. Walk-on bigs like Biberaj and Vassor seem to also be among the back-up plans.

DaBig, please do not stop posting recruiting news. The people that don't want to hear about offers are the same people that complain about 2 star recruits. They always have to have something to complain about.

RE: 2018 Old Dominion Basketball Recruiting Den
My massaged serenity prayer for addressing opinions.

Me, have the patience
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, this world
as it is, not as I would like it;
trusting that things right
if I take a deep breath;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life;
Exhale;
Phew.

Carry on.

Go big or go home 04-rock

But I agree, it seems as if, at times, we are putting all our eggs in a couple of baskets and hoping they won't break.
