Baseball Preview: Campbell
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW (11-15) retakes the field on Tuesday when one of the its oldest rivals, Campbell (14-14), returns to Brooks Field for a 6 p.m. start.
The Seahawks carry a five-game losing skid into this week's five-game week which continues on the road Wednesday at High Point. UNCW then plays a split home-and-home series on the weekend with North Carolina Central beginning with a home game on Friday followed by games in Durham on Saturday and Sunday.
The UNCW-Campbell series dates back to 1965 with the Seahawks owning an 80-38-1 lead. Last season, won a pair of slugfests with the Camels, winning 11-4 in Buies Creek and 14-7 at Brooks Field.
Junior righthander Austin Warren will make his third start of the season, but the first since Mar. 8 against then nationally-ranked NC State. In five appearances since then, Warren has posted a 1.80 earned run average with 10 strikeouts in 10 innings worked.
Campbell will turn to lefthander Andrewe Witczak, who will be making his fifth start of the season. Witczak is 1-2 and worked 12 innings.
The home-and-home series wraps up on Apr. 25, when the Seahawks visit Buies Creek.
