I can say that of the 6 young people I hired over the past 12 months....4 were useless as employees in a manufacturing setting. They had zero idea about what "Work" is all about. Needless to say...I sent them on their way.

This trend has been more and more prevalent over the past decade. 30 years ago..when I started in mgmt...I rarely had this problem. Now it is the norm..not the exception. I go through a constant battle to find people that understand that you must get to work on time and when there?...be at your job...and be productive. They are more concerned with their cell phones than their jobs.

Probably not. Judge identified with the swimmer. Whether it was because he was white or wealthy or a swimmer (all three are privilege), not sure but the judge would not have identified with either of your examples.

I have no doubt, but I imagine that has to do more with the administrative, IT, and logistics type support troops. I believe standards are still well maintained for infantry and they certainly are for special forces. Also, most of them either spend 6-months at a time deployed and away from their families or at some point have or will have to in the future. I really have have no problem with them having a 4-day weekend every month when they are home. I live in a heavy military area and really have not seen the evidence that they have been infiltrated by the special snowflakes of their generation. I have a lot of friends that are officers and they haven't voiced any complaints either. There are certainly exceptions, but I haven't seen an overarching culture rot there. Maybe it just depends on the command and you work with a failing one.
