And VT, UVA, NC State, etc.

WHich is better than:

A) Not having football

or

B)Playing Elon.

Probably not for long once they see this plan.

They all agreed to play ODU at "old" Foreman Field. How would this discourage them from playing at the "new" Foreman Field?

The current agreement with VT is that only 2018 is set in stone and the other two games to be played in Norfolk are based on the new stadium being built. IMO, I think we will rightfully back out from playing you guys in the other two games because this simply isn't big enough. ODU needed to build for 27-28K capacity minimum. Your leadership is thinking small. And the location choice is nothing short of disastrous because the largest you can ever expand is about 30K.

IMO, you guys would have been better off collaborating with Norfolk State about refurbishing and sharing Dick Price Stadium.

Good grief what a terrible idea.

ACC schools aren't coming to play in Norfolk based on the quantity or quality of the stadium. It's purely strategic recruiting tools.

Guessing that in the NW corner gets a second level it would probably add another 2700 or so.

So 27650 Max before suites are factored in.
Anything larger than that would probably mean a 3rd floor on the West side. Doubt we could fit any seats in the NE corner.

Your math sucks

This is like a Thanksgiving Day family gathering. All of these people are my family, and their spouses and kids, but I swear I don't see eye-to-eye with most of them on most issues. We all get together each year just the same.

I'm fairly certain that most of the posters who are complaining the loudest will continue to show up (late) on game days.

Of course the majority of fans that frequent message boards are the ones that will show up every week either way. We could play at Ocean Lakes High School and I would show up. Improving the gameday experience draws in more casual fans.

I think your addition is off. The total of the numbers here is 28,100, not 24,950. If you add the NW corner second level is 2700 then that gets you over the 30,000. FIFY

Found it. Dropped a 0 when I added it up. 28,100 is correct before suites and patio loges (old and new)
That's what I get for not double checking it. 05-nono

Yes they did. Without any forward momentum, I may be forced to disengage completely and focus solely on basketball. It is too expensive as is and now that is likely going up by a lot and with no improvement to the entertainment or product on the field. I saw somewhere that financing is going to be in the area of $4M per year just for the initial phase. We have already lost something like $1.5M in TV revenue. How do we negotiate that gap? That is over 10% of the entire AD budget. I enjoy attending games. I enjoy the current stadium. I don't enjoy it enough to spend over $1,000 on season tickets or $200 to attend an individual conference game.

RE: New Stadium Thread
Assuming we have 50% more room for our butts and leg room, if this stadium was all bench seats we'd be at a 33k seat stadium before the expansion. Is that really what would get you guys more excited? Just the capacity? I think the complainers are really undervaluing the creature comforts we are about to receive.

It is ludicrous to think that kids only take stadium capacity in consideration. Give me a break. Pretty sure the atmosphere, filling up that stadium, among playing time and the team/coaches play into their decisions a bit more. But what do I know.

I am laughing at this vthokie guy. Really, VT isn't going to play in the 757 because of a stadium capacity? No. They don't care how many fans are at their games here, they come to play at ODU because it's a recruiting trip for them. To think they are only going to play in front of a minimum of 30k is a bit short sighted.

I hope your seats are good and I can improve my seat then. I'm really going to enjoy the comfort and amenities of the new stadium. As a taller person, I won't have to worry about kneeing the people in front of me in the back.

You are wrong on the entertainment angle for sure. There is nothing about the new stadium that will have a negative impact on the product on the field.

That bold part is your opinion but I'm curious what part of this lacks improving on entertainment?

Where are you getting the numbers from? You speak in such absolutes about things that haven't happened.

It's currently too expensive so that's the real issue? Sports aren't cheap. I load up my CC each year and pay it down through the year otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it either. I also had to chose and I would have both BB and FB but my family trumped me and so I went all in on FB and pick and chose the BB games I attend.

Anyway. I wasted too much time on here already today. Have a good day!

For the people saying "Would you prefer quality over quantity" do realize that it is not a 'one or the other' issue. There's a sliding scale and I'm worried it's going in a direction that stifles our progress.

No, the entertainment will not be negatively impacted... it will be exactly the same. The negative impact is the price. You'll have enough leg room to bring a king-sized matress if the price doubles.

Then be ready for season ticket demand to dwindle along with ODAF donations. Thats suits the people less interested in ODU football than the people more interested.

Exactly. You can't break through the glass ceiling if you aim 50 feet short of it.

And the location choice is nothing short of disastrous because you the largest you can ever expand is about 30K.

IMO, you guys would have been better off collaborating with Norfolk State about refurbishing and sharing Dick Price Stadium.

The administration botched this one big league.

Same team, same opponents, same stakes, same entertainment.

Actually, come to think of it, perhaps there will be a negative impact on overall entertainment and experience if they get rid of that tailgate lot. That would mean fewer people can enjoy that aspect, many of which go for that reason moreso than the actual game.

Good for you. I'm not using debt to pay for entertainment. I don't think most other people will either.
