It is ludicrous to think that kids only take stadium capacity in consideration. Give me a break. Pretty sure the atmosphere, filling up that stadium, among playing time and the team/coaches play into their decisions a bit more. But what do I know.

I am laughing at this vthokie guy. Really, VT isn't going to play in the 757 because of a stadium capacity? No. They don't care how many fans are at their games here, they come to play at ODU because it's a recruiting trip for them. To think they are only going to play in front of a minimum of 30k is a bit short sighted.

If the ticket prices are reduced 50% as well, then yes, it is exactly what I want.

Then be ready for season ticket demand to dwindle along with ODAF donations. Thats suits the people less interested in ODU football than the people more interested.

Disagree. There will be very few tailgating spots in that scenario. They will be competed for and come at a very high premium. If you don't donate, you get to park on street in Colonial Place and hike a mile to the stadium. I'm cool with that, but a lot aren't and they'll have to donate to avoid it. Heck, give them a beer garden as well... like a big blue room.

Doing the math, it seems like it'd be around 180MM+

Assumptions:
-Each section of the stadium costs the same no matter what phase it's built in.
-The initial east/west lower bowl cost around 25MM each (determined from plan V).
-Video board is included in the North endzone renovation.

I dont think most people are asking for 33k stadium with less leg room but rather the 30k stadium within the first phrase. I'm sure this stadium can be expanded to 40-50K in the right time. Right now what we need is casual fans to get to the game.

Vtech is playing at ODU because of the recruiting, but there is also a cache in the contract which harry had mentioned in 2013 regarding the stadium. I dont know if seating is mentioned in details.
Quote:Ballein said the contract calls for a $500,000 per game buyout if either school decides to cancel. It also calls for the games in Norfolk to be played in a new stadium, beginning in 2022.

Thx. Then I going to go out on a limb and say we'll not see the finished product in my life time unless one of us strikes it big and donates millions of $ to make it happen. Lotto tickets anyone?

I feel like everyone here is glossing over the lead.

We are going to build a new facility without raising student fees! That is a huge accomplishment.

Is everything ideal?! No. But this is what we can afford without further taxing students. The way Populous broke out the different phases I'm sure the admin. has a decent idea what each additional step will cost. Hopefully, because this initial step is affordable some additional features can be added more quickly. Perhaps even privately fundraised (I agree the A/V stuff would be great).

There is no answer available to your question. Five options were considered, but none were complete build out as it was cost prohibitive.

Option IV would, including the west bowl, east bowl, and east upper deck. That would have provided 28,363 seats, but the debt service would have been $4.8M, and the student fee increase would have been $82.

As I have said before, when President Broderick announced the move to FBS, he said it would be necessary to replace Foreman Feild, and he pledged that student fees would not be increased to do it. He is a man of his word.

The new stadium is a requirement because the current visitor locker rooms at Foreman don't meet up to the FBS standard, even after we added on to the existing one a couple years ago.

There are plenty of places to tailgate on campus. Just take a walk over to the white lot. Personally, I wouldn't pay an extra dollar for a tailgate lot, it is too easy to tailgate by walking over to a tailgate lot or drinking a beer in the car.

I wouldn't either, but there are a lot of people who will, particularly women that don't like football (my sister is one). The tailgating is the only reason she goes and thus the only reason she lets her husband get the tickets (yes, she wears the pants).

I came up with about 172 mil so pretty close

-North rebuild (C&D) = 39
-East Upper Deck (F) = 23.3
-West Tower (A) = 54.7

Cost to completion = 117 + 55 (initial build) = 172 mil

We could add the east upper deck and get capacity up to about 28K for an additional 23.3 mil which might be doable sooner rather than later. However the North Rebuild is probably the most needed but will hardly change capacity at all. The West Tower is the most expensive remaining component but that's where the luxury suites are so it has the best possibility of paying for itself.

The Populous pdf which says the debt service on $94M (option III) would have been $5.9M and the student fee increase would have been $164. Based on that I'm guessing the debt service on $172M would be about $11M, with a student fee increase of about $280.

That was not looked at as an option.

Option V, which is what we are getting costs $55M, with a debt service of $3.24M, and $0 student fee increase.

If that is the lead, then near the top of the story should be the soon to be ongoing discussions with the CAA to rejoin them. John Broderick, WS, and BOV did the entire university a disservice with this crap.

This is so similar to the old Blaine Taylor discussion. Some people on here were content winning the CAA every so often and being one and done in the dance. Those are the same people who are saying that playing in a FCS stadium is good for the university. It is good for a FCS university, not for a FBS school.

We have cemented our place as an afterthought in the college athletic landscape.

The best I can tell from the study, the initial phase does not include sideline suites. The big money donors are going to be asked to step up to the plate in a capital fundraising campaign which is sure to be underway soon. Additional suites is a major draw for those with deep pockets.

Yea, let's go back to CAA. Let's host Campbell and Chowan instead of Virginia Tech and NC State. Good talk.
