TXST Softball Takes a "Hit"
Kelly Kretschman Has Left TXST. Decided to forgo the coaching gig to go back to pro fastpitch softball full time. Osterman was still playing, last year (2015), while coaching but retired after their season and was at TXST full time this season (2016). Seriously, she's 36 (Kretschman), 37 next month. Osterman is 33. You gotta move on sometime, don't you? (personal rant)
Replacing her - coach Peejay Brun was with TXST previously

Former Bobcat Gets MLB Call
Former TXST short relief pitcher, Donnie Hart, who was with the Orioles AA team has been called up to the bigs. Congrats Donnie.
Orioles to add left-hander Donnie Hart to bullpen
The one thing the Orioles’ bullpen has been missing throughout this season is a dependable situational left-handed reliever, and the club will add one when it reassembles Thursday in Tampa Bay.
The Orioles plan to select the contract of reliever Donnie Hart from Double-A Bowie, according to an industry source. The 25-year-old Hart, the team’s 27th-round draft pick in 2013 out of Texas State, was 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 33 appearances with the Baysox, striking out 43 and allowing 34 hits over 39 relief innings.

RE: INside the Sun Belt Conference
Current TXST asst softball coach to be enshrined in Little League Hall of Excellence.
Little League to Enshrine Three into the Hall of Excellence
Quote:Ms. Osterman, now a softball coach at Texas State University, played Little League Softball at Bear Creek Little League in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Cypress Springs High School as the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year, Ms. Osterman joined Team USA Softball, where she became the first in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings at 15.4, and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated twice. While at the University of Texas, she was the first NCAA pitcher to register 2,000-plus strikeouts. Ms. Osterman won a gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics and a silver at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
As a Texas Longhorn, Ms. Osterman was named USA Softball National Player of the Year three times. As a freshman, she pitched the first perfect game in Longhorn softball history - the first of her seven career perfect games and just one of her 20 career no-hitters. Ms. Osterman was a four-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American, and a three-year member of the All-Big 12 Academic Team.
In 2006, Ms. Osterman was the first overall pick in the National Pro Fastpitch draft. In her rookie season, Ms. Osterman set a league record with career best strikeout ratio of 12.5. In 2009, Ms. Osterman’s Rockford Thunder won the Cowles Cup Championship. She was named an All-Star and MVP. She retired from tne NPF after the 2015 season. Ms. Osterman’s Little League Hall of Excellence enshrinement ceremony will take place prior to the 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, Aug. 23. She is the fourth woman to receive the honor, and the first to be recognized for a career in softball.

Former Player in ICU
One of the young men that was dismissed from the team back in June, Justin Gamble, was in a car accident last week near his hometown. From all that I have found/read he is not in good shape and remains in ICU.
Prayers would be appreciated.
Quote:On the late night of August 6, 2016 Justin was involved in a severe car accident which caused him to endure several injuries including a broken mandible and a broken tibia and fibula on both legs. With that being said he has undergone 4 surgeries already and has quite a few more operations to go, including a muscle transplant on his right leg, a skin graft, and jaw surgery

RE: INside the Sun Belt Conference
TXST Junior pitcher, Randi Rupp, has been invited to try out for Team USA. (interesting as she didn't make AA)
Didn't want to start a new thread on this. Curious if anyone else has a player invited?

Hey folks, you know you're allowed to post on here, right?
Anyone can also add stuff for their school. It's become more of an open thing than specific persons.

RE: INside the Sun Belt Conference
Texas State's assistant baseball coach, Jeremy Fikac, who has been with the program for 11 years, has left and no one is talking about it. Nothing from the beat writers, the U, Harrington, the AD...no one. Nothing, zero, zip, zilch.
Yes, I had prior info on it happening and "sat on it" but now his name is no longer on the team roster so thought it was ok to say something.
