Yes I agree. I would rather see us schedule a tough Fcs opponent for a home and home then schedule a second fbs game. At least then we have a better statistical likelihood of winning.

Can you give a few examples of a tough FCS opponent who might do a home and home. Not advocating a second FBS game, but I think it would be easier to schedule the second FBS team. Tough FCS opponent--we already went through this with North Dakota. Please don't mention Liberty.
Cupcakes or second FBS game? I know the game I'd watch.

Any given major five conference team that has made the playoffs at least twice in the last five years.

Big sky, Missouri valley, southland or Ohio valley teams. Even patriot or Ivy teams would be fine by me.

Okay. I really don't keep up with the different conferences and i'll google the teams but with travel constraints/costs, I would think half of the eligible teams are too far.

Chattanooga, Colgate, Penn, Harvard, Yale, Jack. St., E. Kentucky. As someone else said, any team that is historically at the top of their conference.

Yep. The top attendance I-AA from the AQ conferences rarely ever schedule 2. The teams that are often scheduling 2 a season tend to be from the smaller attendance schools that have to do it for financial reasons.

Looking at the 2015 Top 10 attendance AQ schools and what they usually schedule as far as I-A games per season:
1. Montana: 0-1 (majority of seasons its 0)
2. JSU: Usually 1 (in the last 6 seasons 2010-2015 played 2 once, in 2012, when they finished 6-5. Last 3 seasons, all playoffs, have played 1).
4. JMU: 1
5. Montana State: 0-1
6. Liberty: Usually 1 (Last 6 seasons played 2 twice. 14' was UNC and transitioning App State. 15' was WVU & Ga St (they shouldn't even count lol).
7. NDSU: Usually 1
9. UD: 0-1

RE: Future Football Schedule
From the "Should We Pursue 2 FBS Games" thread back in Dec:
(12-18-2015 04:02 PM)BDKJMU Wrote:  In the post 2000 era, the folllowing teams won the NC and the # of I-A games they played:
2000 GSU: 1
2001 Montana: 2*
2002 WKU: 1
2003 UD: 1
2004 JMU: 1
2005 ASU: 2**
2006 ASU 1
2007 ASU 1
2008 UR 1
2009 VU 1
2010 EWU 1
2011 NDSU 1
2012 NDSU 1
2013 NDSU 1
2014 NDSU 1
*(Hawaii which gave Montana in an 11 game season an extra 12th game, and 1-10 Idaho, AT MONTANA, so had 7 of 12 home games). Now in an 11 game season if JMU can get a game @ Hawaii, which would allow a 12th game. and then find a bad G5 to HOST @ JMU, and have 7 home games, then hell yeah, by all means.
**After that 1st NC ASU's attendance shot way up, they expanded their stadium and didn't schedule 2 I-A games again before moving up in 2014.

Now sure you can go back to the 90s and see where in all 3 of YSU's NC seasons they played 2 MAC teams. But thats not a P5 and a G5..

Looking at those last 15 NC teams' schedules, even if I missed a I-A game, bottom line there is a pattern here to winning an NC, and its not scheduling 2 I-A games..

You can pretty much draw a line through the Ivy League teams and forget ever scheduling them. Ivies play other Ivies or teams from the Patriot, or perhaps a service academy. The rest of us are the unwashed masses.

Yep I'd love to play any Ivy League school, but we're probably more likely to get UVA on the schedule. They only have a history of playing in-state CAA teams (uri and unh) and then patriot league teams. That's it.
Us public schools can't be seen on their schedule. That would be beneath them. There's a reason they don't play in the Fcs playoffs.

BDK, which I-AA leagues don't have an AQ at this point? SWAC? Who else?

Yeah the one exception I can think of is I think Villanova and Penn play sometimes but that's different. There's a convenience factor there since they're so close.

Nova and Penn play quite often. That is what made me think of them.

We absolutely should be scheduling Jacksonville State. I not only want good competition but I want our team playing in front of good crowds and they average approximately 15K. We don't need to travel to opponents who have 7K fans on the best of days.

RE: Future Football Schedule
Speaking of traveling crowds, how many JMU fans will appear in Norfolk? Greater than 2k? 5k? More? I think JMU brought close to 12k against the ticks when they played in the old stadium, but of course that was a conference game and rival, plus being a bit closer for some people being in Richmond. Norfolk has a stadium that seats 30k, so tickets will be easy to come by, but I'm curious to see what the attendance will be from the Dukes side.

W&M used to play Harvard fairly regularly, and I know El Cid has played Princeton in the past.

Hoping it's a day game -- that'd be a long haul back to the Fredericksburg area if it's a late kick.

Hoping that game doesn't actually happen because we have absolutely NO business traveling to Norfolk State to play tackle football.

RE: Future Football Schedule
Houston just said on the conference call that our OOC schedule is full through 2018, but wouldn't give specifics. They're working on 2019 and onward, with him having input on the scheduling opponents.

With one unknown OOC in 2018, does anyone care to share anything they've heard?

Hburg, can we please sticky this thread?

Already noted earlier that we're playing ETSU next year but thanks for confirming the date. I'm wondering who the third OOC in 2018 is.
